I have run an Optoma GT 10803D DLP projector for 4 years. It has 2800 lumens and continues to run great....no problems.

I am thinking of upgrading to the Optoma GT1080 HDR with 3800 lumens and the new 6 segment color wheel

The primary purpose is that I would like to hit balls with more light on in my sim room. I would like to play in normal room lighting as much as possible. One reason for this is the help get better video from my swing analysis cameras.

My question, do you think the upgrade as listed above will allow me to hit in normal room lighting conditions?

From what I have read on projector central they said it should be just fine for that. Additionally, because of the throw ratio on this, you could move to a short throw config and have it on the ground in a protective cage. I was thinking about upgrading to this as well, but at this point I'm trying to weigh out my budget to either a Projector, or upgrading from ST to Mevo+...

I just bought the optoma GT1080 HDR but haven't installed it. I did though take it out of the box and compared it to my previous projector which is a benq UST 3000 lumen. There was a pretty big difference in color pop. There is still some fading with my lights on, but a lot more comfortable on the eyes. Didn't feel I had to strain as much to see the screen details. My garage has 4 LED 80watt equivalent light bulbs. That said I was happy with the lumen increase as well as the color vibrancy. Turning on HDR though does seem to take away a decent amount of lumens so I might leave it off after I get it installed this weekend.

I'll try and take some pics of before and after for you.

Thanks, I would appreciate any feedback as I am about ready to pull the trigger.

So installed the projector. Subjectively it's a decent improvement from my old one. Although I wouldn't say mind blowing. IMO it's a mild upgrade.
Definitely not skytrak to uneekor level!

Pictures are taken with my cell phone Samsung note 10 plus. 4 LED garage lights are on. I used an app called Lux light meter. I took the measurements 2 feet away from the screen aiming at the blue sky in the attached pics.

With the lux meter on the optoma, it was reading 20 regularly instead of 18 that was captured in the picture. I think when I moved my hands for the screenshot, it made a drop since the app uses the front phone sensor.

I recently purchased the GT1080HDR. I previously had the GT760A. It is definitely brighter then my old GT and picture is crisp when used with minimal ambient light. I have a 4 bay garage. The two pictures are with the lights on and off. When the lights are on it will get washed but that is to be expected to some degree. The lighting is fluorescent and there are a lot of them and one set is only a few feet from the screen, so considering that it is pretty good IMO. It should be noted that the brighter picture is with a certain amount of ambient light has I have 4 windows and all the garage doors have windows in them as well. I don’t cover the windows as there is no need anymore.

Just played a couple rounds. Overall I don't have any buyer's remorse. Before I would always have to strain my eyes a little bit especially to read the grid lines on the greens. Now I can see them very clearly.

The pics I took were also with optoma's default setting. I increase the contrast and also some other color options to give it more pop.

I can now comfortably play without feeling the picture is too washed out with the lights on.
