    Projector Placement Help

    Hi Everyone,

First time i've posted but have been reading the site for a while and really appreciate all the posts.

I've bitten the bullet and bought myself a Skytrak for my garage and have also ordered a 3m x 2.4m archery screen, tee turf mat, pc etc. My issue is i'm unsure of where i place the projector and then what projector to get once i have decided the best place to put it. I will be running the projector on 4:3 ratio as i think this would best suit the screen size i have ordered.

I have on a 2.4m (8ft) high ceiling but have an area raised in the middle of the room that allows me to swing drive etc, From the screen to where the ceiling starts to raise is approx 1.6m (5.3ft) and i will be standing 2.75-3m (9-10ft) when hitting the ball and will be able to hit from the the middle of the screen without having to off set.

Im am unsure if i should mount the projector in front of me, above my head, behind me or on the floor.

My concerns with each issue are
    1. If i put the projector in front of my will i hit it when playing lofted shots etc.
    2. If i try and mount it above my head will i hit it with the club and would i be able to get a long enough bracket to make sure the raised section doesnt block the picture.
    3. If i put it on the floor is there a cage or something that covers it and does it cause any issue with putting on TGC2019 etc.
    4. If i mount it behind me will it cast a shadow on the screen.

I have included a diagram of my garage with a few pictures and hopefully it will give you an idea of what i'm talking about, as i realize its hard for people to understand when they cant see the actual garage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as im all set to go within the next few weeks once i sort this issue.

    Cheers

    Your space has some issues.

My first concern is whether you can actually swing a Driver. Remember the follow through is not above the golfer, it's above and behind. It's the area behind you on the follow through that I would be concerned about. Have you swung a Driver in the space?

The raised area in the ceiling unfortunately doesn't seem to help with the projector placement. The front of the raised area where it transitions from the regular ceiling height, in effect will block the projected image unless you place the projector below the straight line that you draw from the top of your impact screen and that intersects the corner where the regular ceiling ends and the raised portion begins.

Sounds like the best location for the projector is at or near the point where the ceiling changes height. This puts the projector in front of the golfer. That is not really a problem since it should still be away from flop shots.

    Re your questions:
    1/ likely not
2/ club won't hit it and mounting methods are many
3/ floor projectors suck and yes, how do you putt?
4/ behind you will cast a shadow

You need a short throw projector. Check out the calculator on ProjectorCentral.com

      Thanks aja,

You have me panicking now about swinging the driver and will have to check. I think im gonna be ok as the area raised is about 8ft x 8ft.

I really dont want a shadow or the projector on the floor so i am gonna see what projector gives me the biggest picture using that calculator you mentioned. If i have to, i guess i could add a brace of wood where the ceiling rises that would allow me to mount the projector slightly further back.

I thought buying LM was the hard part, but it turns out there is a lot more to this golf simulator stuff than i realised.

      Thanks

My first thoughts gravitated where aja's did. You may end up having to do something like I'm stuck with in my garage set up. I ginned up this the other day for another post. Maybe it will give you some ideas at least. You'll get it figured out!
