I'm considering this project for both golf & movies. For starters, does anyone have this model that can provide a review. Secondly, the room is 10'w x 10'h. Intention is to mount projector on the ceiling, how far away does this projector have to be from the screen to fill it? (Such a basic question that I have no idea of the answer). Thanks in advance for any info.

If the room is 10 feet wide, we'll figure on a 9 foot screen...... it would have to be 14 feet, 3 inches from the screen for a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio. For a 4:3 ratio it would be 17 feet, 2 inches. In both instances the lens would have to be even with the top of the image.

I've used WU515ST for over a year. I ceiling mount the projector about 9.2' from the screen to produce a 11' x 6.9' 16:10 picture. WU515ST is very easy to adjust because of it's both vertical and horizontal lens shift. The high lumens also make it a perfect projector for simulation and movie watching.

I appreciate the posts trying to clear this up... I used a 9.5" screen (actually I have 10'5" in width) (160.5" diagonal) on the projector central link (3on3putt). It appears I need 25'4" from the screen to project an image 9.5' x 5.93'. I'm sorry but that just doesn't make sense to me why it has to be that far from the screen. Antony's is 9.2" away and the image is similar. Please explain why the difference between the 2 distances are so far apart. As sophisticated as these projectors are as well as what they cost, I'm amazed it can't be 8' away and project that image.

Yes, you guys are talking about 2 different projectors with two different throw ratios.Originally posted by Antony Chang View PostAha! I found we are talking about two different projectors. Yours is WU515T, mine is WU515ST. The throw ratios are 1.26 – 2.16:1 and 0.79. I'd recommend the ST(Short Throw) one.
Brioni ---- you have to get a short throw projector. The optoma gt1080 or gt1080 darbee is a popular one for simulators that you would be able to mount less than 8 feet away. Just as one example. I have an InFocus projector that is mounted just 5.5 feet away that projects a similar image size to yours.
Short throws are the way to go in order to not have any shadows in the way. Figure out the throw ratio you need, click on "find a projector" on the projector central site and enter that throw ratio as part of your search criteria.

I appreciate both of your input 3on3 & Antony. Short Throw it is (it does make sense). I learned from reading here that the more Lumens the brighter the screen. The short throws seem to have 3,000. I can control the lighting in the room very easily. Is 3,000 Lumens enough for golf & movies? Which Infocus model do you have and are you happy with it? From what I'm learning I can get the projector part solved for $1,000 +/- instead of $2,000 +/-. From what I learned 7'2" from the screen will do the job (very nice!). How far from the screen is the ball placed in your setup?

WU 515 ST has brightness of ANSI 5500 lumens. It is bright enough even with some ambient lights on.

My InFocus is the IN138HDST. My ball is about 7.5 feet from my screen and the projector is somewhere around 5.5 feet for a 9x9 screen. It's 5,000 lumens with really good speakers (I have to leave the volume set at 1 because it's literally too loud even on just volume 2.) I paid $900 for it brand new. Love it.

brioni21 if you're going short throw i highly recommend optoma gt1080 hdr, it has a much better image that it's older siblings the gt1080 or gt1080 darbee and is only $738 on amazon right now or even cheaper if you buy used.

Or if you really want to get the latest version and best image you can go with the gt1090hdr which is $1400

Hey Jerry, the GT1090hdr is the one. The throw distance is 8'7" for my desired setup, it's perfect electrical is very close that powers ceiling fan. Love the specs for $1400 (4K, 4200 lumens, etc.). The back wall is freshly painted Master's white that I can see what it's going to do before attaching to ceiling or getting the enclosure. My room is 10' wide, I know it's going to take a while to get used to swinging in what feels like a wide hallway considering we play outside. If I don't like it, I dump the simulator and have a theatre room that I can use as a driving range only. I intend to make the entire room a putting green, that includes building up the floor 4". That's the last part though. I appreciate the info. I'll review it within a couple weeks, take a little while to get it.

Picked up my GT1090HDR projector last night. Currently projecting to a white textured wall and it looks amazing. Can't wait to see it on a screen. Intent is to mount it on the ceiling. If anyone knows the best ceiling mount, there doesn't seem to be a lot of info regarding ceiling mounts, please let me know. Thanks

Upon further review, I bought the wrong ROKU for the unit. I bought ROKU Express which is useless. I moved the family room ROKU unit to the projector and it's great. The ROKU Express doesn't recognize my 5G network (that's how I figured out where the problem was). New ROKU box on the way. So with the projector mounted on the ceiling, I'm assuming an HDMI cable will need to go from the simulator to the projector. Since this room will double as a home theatre room, should the simulator plug into the receiver as everything else does in a traditional surround sound setup? Luckily the room had surround sound previously but the center channel will have to be relocated to the back of the room instead of the front.
