I'm considering this project for both golf & movies. For starters, does anyone have this model that can provide a review. Secondly, the room is 10'w x 10'h. Intention is to mount projector on the ceiling, how far away does this projector have to be from the screen to fill it? (Such a basic question that I have no idea of the answer). Thanks in advance for any info.

Hey Jerry, the GT1090hdr is the one. The throw distance is 8'7" for my desired setup, it's perfect electrical is very close that powers ceiling fan. Love the specs for $1400 (4K, 4200 lumens, etc.). The back wall is freshly painted Master's white that I can see what it's going to do before attaching to ceiling or getting the enclosure. My room is 10' wide, I know it's going to take a while to get used to swinging in what feels like a wide hallway considering we play outside. If I don't like it, I dump the simulator and have a theatre room that I can use as a driving range only. I intend to make the entire room a putting green, that includes building up the floor 4". That's the last part though. I appreciate the info. I'll review it within a couple weeks, take a little while to get it.

From what I understand, it means that it can handle 4k input. It is not a 4k projector, the image displays 1920x1080. EDIT to expand- from what I can tell, it is basically just misleading marketing. It leads people to think they are getting a 4k projector.

I am wondering if it upscales to 4k..... or downscales to 1080p. I know that my Oled tv upscales normal HD content really well. I have some experience with the WU515ST.... I think it was the WU.... anyway, that projector looked fantastic with TGC at 1080p.

Not to take anything away from the 1090HDR but yes as described while it accepts a 4K data input, it only displays at a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 (which is still pretty great) vs Full 4K of 3840 x 2160. That said, given we are discussing 16:10 formats though a better comparison would be from 1920 x 1080 (HD - or Full HD) to 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA).

Next question... I bought a soundbar for use with the projector. Please confirm there must be a receiver added to drive the soundbar? The projector has an "audio out" connection. Please advise.

Depends on what your sound bar requires as an input - my projector does indeed have an audio out but my previous BenQ did not. That said, you likely also have an audio output option from your PC (or an easy low cost option to upgrade your PC). But as I said, it depends on the sound bar and what it needs as an Audio input.

Yamaha YAZ-109. It comes with 2 HDMI inputs, no optical input. I intend to use an iPad for the simulator. The soundbar is intended for the home theatre feature of the projector. It sure seems that the soundbar should connect to a receiver as the projector should as well.

Just got off phone with Optoma. The ROKU plugs into the soundbar then the soundbar connects to the projector. I didn't realize the soundbar acts as a receiver. I have the ROKU plugged into the projector presently. (I'm all new to this and continue to learn as we go along).

Have a problem, that I hope someone has a solution for... We assembled the enclosure today and the front bar is running through the screen. Obviously, this is a short throw projector. Please if someone knows a way around this it would be nice. I don't believe we can lower the projector enough to keep the picture a reasonable distance from the floor. Any assistance is extremely appreciated...

It looks like you have room to increase the height of your enclosure. That's probably the best thing to do.

Your projector doesn't have vertical lens shift, so if you did lower it, you're right, the image would start to show on the floor. You could also lower the projector and angle it up, then correct the image with keystone, but you will lose image quality if you do that. Also important to know if the projector will be in your swing if you lower it.

I have a 2-way problem. enclosure needs to be 14" taller and I also have an issue that will require sending back the projector. I had a blotch on the wall about the size of a football is was upper right middle of picture, when lights were being projected in this area it was obviously darker if you looked for it. When it was mounted and rotated 180 degrees it was lower left. I looked at it with a magnifying glass and on the lens it looks like a pitted space rock, that ain't buffing out. I called technical support today and they said they'd just replace the unit. Nothings easy... In contact with enclosure co, probably resolve it tomorrow, it's going to cost me though. Appreciate your input.
