I’m putting a simulator together in my garage - 16x9 (or 16x10 if I can get the rafter ties moved high enough), most likely retractable screen. Assuming I’m hitting 10 feet back, I’m trying to figure out whether the UDH50x or the GT1090 would be better - I guess I wonder if 4K but at lower lumens trade off is worth it. Any thoughts?

I had compared these before well. Heres the poop regarding 4K... You need a top-tier GPU in your computer to render a solid experience for simulated golf. So really the comparison you are looking at above is a moot point unless you are investing in the correct computer hardware. Higher Lumen is always going to be chief among concerns in a non-controlled light environment.

It should definitely be fine for 4K. The 50x is also really good for low-latency gaming (not necessary for Golf simulation but great for First Person shooters) so thats also a big bonus. Its also not True 4K, but most people can't tell the difference between pixel shift and native 4k.

The UHD50X is not a short throw - will need to be around 20 ft back for a good size screen, so golfer's head will likely throw shadows. If you want 4K, the BenQ TK850 at a similar price has a shorter throw - even a couple feet will make a difference with shadows. Shorter throw 4K projectors are $5K and up.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.

Ron, another good option, although I'm unsure exactly how you would protect it effectively would be something like the 4K Laser short throw projectors by Dell, or Vava. Its under $3K and apparently has really great picture and a very high Lumen output... I think another issue would be the uniformity of the hitting screen. If your screen isn't tight and uniform the picture might not look all that great.Originally posted by GungHoGolf View PostThe UHD50X is not a short throw - will need to be around 20 ft back for a good size screen, so golfer's head will likely throw shadows. I'm unable to find a Dell 4K projector on the web. Got a link to it?Originally posted by SkeetShooter View Post

The VAVA 4K is an ultra-short throw projector, and displays a max image width of 11' from only 2.5' back from the screen and needs to be 18" below the bottom edge of the image (or above the top edge). That'd be very hard to protect from ball strikes.- Ron at GunghoGolf.com - we specialize in TrackMan, FlightScope, Foresight, Uneekor, SkyTrak, Garmin, Bushnell, TGC, and E6 Connect. 512-861-4151 or email hello AT gunghogolf.com.
