Benq TH671ST image brightness too low

I decided to go with the Benq TH671ST, the only question I have:

From projectorcentral for a 10’ screen width(4:3) and 10’ distance to screen I get low brightness estimate: 32 nits (but normal specs 100 nits as manufacturer estimate)

If you use this projector can you please comment on this ?

The TH671ST is a bright projector, and very popular in the golf sim world. BenQ is conservative with their lumen ratings. Just installed one yesterday for a client with a 16x9' screen. If you can control the ambient light in the room (and you must with any projector if you don't want washed-out blacks), you'll be very happy with it.

I have that projector and love it. The adjustments make it really easy to set up. It's around 10ft from the screen 16:9 13ft wide around 93 inches tall. I use a spotlight and control the ambient light.

The TH671ST doesn't not have any lens shift - just vertical keystone adjustment. The vert keystone in the projector is very good - you'd be hard-pressed to know the difference between it on and off, I certainly couldn't tell just by looking. You certainly won't see "distortion" - all it is is a squeezing/expansion of pixels to square up the image.

I recall projector central made me unnecessarily anxious about my foot-Lamberts. (I just wanted to use that unit today in a sentence). I ended up having far more than I needed.

But remember to download Reshade once you get TGC 2019 to brighten and pop the image some more. based what other's said above you should be good to go per brightness. Search for ReShade in this forum for installation details.

I was also wondering about the brightness of the TH671ST when I saw the projector central calculations but, based on some feedback I got from the forums here, I also went with it. My build isn't complete yet (screen has yet to arrive) but just projecting the image against the white-ish dry wall the image appears plenty bright enough for me in my completely light-controlled garage.

Has anyone compare the Benq TH671ST vs Optoma GT1080HDR? Are they comparable? Is one better than the other? They are pretty similarly priced but Optoma has lot higher brightness rating... 3800 vs 3000 so I'm wondering if Optoma if a better projector for golf simulation.

I prefer the BenQ over the Optoma for most cases, as it has a true optical zoom (Optoma has digital zoom) and a slightly longer throw which usually works better for golf rooms with a big screen and ceiling mount. The vertical offset of the Optoma is also extreme at 21" (BenQ is 3"), which makes positioning at the top of the screen even if there's a top enclosure and not needing to use vertical keystone adjustment MUCH easier. Finally, I much prefer the UI of BenQ's settings and remote controls in general over Optoma. BenQ is conservative with their lumen ratings, it's a bright projector.

Wiz is right, the shorter throw of the Optoma would be better for floor mounting, and the lack of zoom is a non-issue because you can reposition it so easily.

Just be aware of putting it on the floor, the vertical offset will make the bottom of the image start pretty high off the ground.

Easy enough to raise the back of the projector to make the image start at the floor, and adjust the vertical keystone to square it up.
