Beginner Projector?

Starting to build out still not sure if i plan on going skytrack vs Mevo+ but just ordered what I could fit in my space which is only a 9 wide by 8 height didn't want to push the 10 wide didn't think that would work. So not an official aspect ratio. That being said started looking at projections and to say there is a lot out there. This is my first build so don't want to spend a ton on it. The main use is my 10 year old tournament golfer kid I have. Whats the best entry level projector?

I've seen BenQ TH671ST, MW632ST a very cheaper one in ViewSonic PA503X. Or do you jump on ebay get a used or refurbished MX819ST. I know some of them are not HD but I went basic with the impact screen for now as I wanted to get it up and make adjustments down the road if needed. Any help you can provide would be great.

I have an 8x8 setup with skytrak and play in a non-standard aspect ratio. I own the BenQ TH671ST and absolutely love it. It can handle any aspect ratio you want so if you change your screen down the road you can keep using it. Its not as good as the $5000 4k ones some of these guys are using, but I've been super happy with it so far. I also used the speaker on the projector for sound up until about 3 days ago when I finally installed some speakers, and honestly the speaker on it is pretty damn good.

What are you loosing or gaining by going to a lesser projector than TH671ST? Just better picture quality?

Basically yes, you will lose picture quality and potentially brightness. If its not a dark room, you need a projector with high enough lumens. Also ideally you want a short throw projector so its not right over your head when you swing. Short throw projectors tend to cost a bit more than your standard cheap 1080p projector.

I bought a BenQ MX819ST off of Ebay. It was refurbished. I got it for $140 and I'm very happy with the quality of picture for the price that I paid. It's 4:3 picture, and watching movies on it are great. The sound quality from the speaker is poor, so I got a sound bar, and that's been working out great.

I plan to upgrade down the road. If I get a couple of years out of this, I'll be more than happy.

I have the Optoma GT1080HDR, 3800 lumens, 1920x1080 resolution and I also have the Viewsonic PDJ6383S, 3000 lumens, 1024x768 resolution. My golf screen is 10'x10'... which projector would most people go with? I have separate home theater so this will only dedicated for golf simulation only.

I'd go with the Optoma as it has significantly more pixel density. 4:3 aspect ratio will fit your square screen the best - both will do that. With the Optoma you'll have 1080 vertical pixels, while the Viewsonic will have only 768.

You referring to the Optoma GT1080HDR? Or another model?

I was referring to the two projectors mentioned in the comment I quoted, so the GT1080HDR.
