  • Optoma gt1080hdr and tgc2019

Trying to run this setup and I’m not sure what’s going on with it . Image and color look strange and washed out. I have to use reshade to make the Colors pop. Even then the image is not very crisp.

here are my settings for the gt1080.

projector mode: presentation (gives the brightest view, everything else is too dark)
    4:3 ratio
    resolution (windows and TGC): 1240x1020
    contrast : 25
    brightness: 10

also running reshape with colors and greens rediculously bright to make the image pop.

but having trouble seeing lines , slopes etc.

    Screen is 11x9

What type of screen are you using? Also, how much other light is in your sim room? Do you have a black border and/or cage? A few pictures would be helpful.

I used this photo because it shows the difference with the TGC window (dull and grey) vs my background (vivid and bright)

the only way I can adjust TGC to look ok is to use reshape and max out my projector contrast and brightness - which makes the image detail and quality look terrible

docsmilez, can you share with me where you found your wall-mounted club holder rack in the photo? That looks excellent and very easy to keep clubs organized for quick access (heads upright) and not taking up any floor space. ...or is that a fishing rod holder actually?? Very interested to know what you have there. Again, looks nice.

Do you also find find that the clubs bang/chip the wall much or is it mounted in a way that restricts that from happening? Thanks.

dterry, They are indeed fishing rod holders. Rapala Lock'n'Hold. They work perfectly with no banging/chipping on the wall. Even work for large grip putters, drivers etc.

docsmilez, Well done. Looks like it is perfectly made for it. Thank you.

How does video or media look on the screen? Or are you just having issue with TGC? I have this exact same projector and I thought it looks decent but I don't have my setup yet. I'm also thinking your room and wall reflection might be too much as well... can you paint the walls black?

Can you share what resolution and projector settings you are using? mainly I am surprised that any other modes besides "Presentation" are very dark. So the Game and cinema modes are not usable. Do you have this same issue?

From the pics, the monitor on the wall seems to be having an issue similar to what you are seeing on screen? Or are my eyes deceiving me...

I noticed that too. Is the resolution of the monitor set to the same as what the projector is set to? It looks like the issue could be independent of the projector.

Are you saying the desktop displays fine but apps not so great ? Do you have an Nvidia card? If so you can mess about in the Nvidia control panel to say how apps should be displayed etc. Maybe something in there is messing up the colour.

I think the main issue is the modes on my projector are too dim besides the "presentation" setting. HDR looks the best but is way too dim. Theres no doubt the projector can get bright and vivid because it can get there if I mess with settings. Just don't know what setting will allow me to get a bright enough image that is clear at the same time.

TGC2019 is more dim all together because when I run TGC it looks better. So I have to use Reshade on TGC2019 to make the colors pop unless there are other settings.

Sorry I'm all over the place, just been messing with this setup forever and as soon as I get close, my settings and resolution get reset when I turn on/off the secondary monitor. AHHHHH!

Looking at your picture, your white walls are going to reflect and rob light from the projection. I have the GT1080HDR and I found a difference going from a grey curtain that had a sheen to it, to this black curtain. White walls are like having the lights turned on.

pwade3 - I often wonder about this as I get my sim setup moving again... I prefer to play sim golf in lighter environments. I’ve played quit a lot of sim golf in bars, sim rooms and sim dedicated bays, and I’m not too happy with any when it feels the room is dark.

Is there a projector brand that is brighter than others that may allow me to have accent lighting on, or different color walls (dark green let’s say, or with golf hole murals on them)?

Brettster There are certainly some high lumens projectors that are effected less by ambient light and reflected light, but again with white walls the high lumens projector will create a bit more reflective light to the walls and ceilings. They will work fine with light colored walls, but a dark surrounding makes the picture a bit more immersive. Really in the end, its just a preference. I found the light colored curtains distracting. I also found I can have more ambient light on now with the black surround and it has less effect on the picture quality.
