Looking for a brighter projector that I don’t have to take a morgage out for !!
I have a 15 foot wide by 8-10 feet highScreen, Just looking for a brighter projector I have the Benq 671 st just doesn’t seem to be bright enough .
thanks in advance
I'm trying an Optoma GT1090HDR, There is a 1080 and a darbee version for around same cost as 671st. I also had 2150st initially but was told my 16x9 screen in garage it might not be bright enough. Use projector central to see the FL rating at bottom for brightness to get an idea.
There is a bright Epson for around $650 on Kijiji Calgary that you could have a look at? Obviously questions need to be asked as it is a few years old, but this was a well rated projector when it came out. Check the reviews and god luck (hopefully it has not been purchased yet).
The BenQ TH671ST is a very bright projector - with most installations of it, I have to turn its brightness down to get the best picture. I'm guessing you have a considerable amount of ambient light in the room hitting the screen, in which case spending $$ for more lumens probably won't give you the results you're after. The dark parts of the image can never get darker than the white screen with the projector off, so even the brightest projector will give you a washed-out, low contrast image if you don't control the ambient light.

Gung-ho, will the Ben Q TH671ST work no where I have a throw distance of 6 ft and an image of 12 X9? Wondering if these projectors can be adjusted to fit these dimensions. I’m looking to get HD picture but looks limited at this distance. What do you think? Recommend? Thanks!

No, the TH671ST has a longer throw, would be 11-12 ft back. You'd need a very short throw projector like the Optoma GT1080HDR or GT1090HDR. Curious why you want it that close?

Hi GungHoGolf, I thought I had figured this out but still not able to fill the entire screen. I squeezed out another foot of throw and I'm at 7'. The reason for such a short throw is that I have a beam which hangs down a foot in a 9'5" garage ceiling. I have to place the projector on the screen side of this beam so that the image is not blocked. I have tried the Viewsonic ST projectors but the image is not nearly as good as the HD quality. The HD projectors researched all seem to give me about a foot of blank space on the top and bottom of the screen with my screen being 12' x 9'. I may have to live with this but thought I would run this by you in case you have any recommendations. Wondering if there is something I can do within my PC to optimize the image? Would appreciate any comments. Thank you!
I just got the th671st after some email exchange with Ron (thank you!) and I can vouch for its brightness ... it’s a great projector especially considering the price. I was coming from optoma eh200st.
Couldn't go to Florida this winter, so I bought a net from The Net Return, then bought the Skytrak to go with it, then went back & bought the Net return's Simulator Kit with screen & valence & then to top it off, purchased the Panasonic PT-VZ580U Projector. I have it all out in the garage, which has just over 10 ft of clearance, The Throw is set at 12 ft & the the top of the screen is 7 ft. off the ground. My Skytrack is set up at a little more than 8 ft from the screen. Currently I have the projector hanging down approx 30 in from the ceiling, where the lens is set at the same height as the top of the screen. The lens is set up dead center of the screen, but the unit is pointed down. My question is whether 30 in from the ceiling too low & should it be raised? I sometimes get in the way of the light & when I turn, boy is that light bright (5,000 Lumens). After reading the "simple" instruction manual, I decided I needed a post graduate math degree. Projector central suggests the vertical offset number can be +2 ft -9". What does that mean ? Am I doing everything correctly or do I start all over again? Thanks
That projector has vertical lens shift and this should allow you to move it up a bit and this not have it hang so low. I would say you have not made a wrong choice on projector and if you are in Calgary and thinking you made a wrong choice that I might be a willing buyer.
