  • Ultra Short Throw 4K Projectors

Hi All, I'm looking for advice regarding using an ultra short throw 4K projector. My screen is 8'X13'. I'm trying to keep to a budget of $3.5K but am not finding many options (under 5-6K) in the short throw category and was wondering if anyone has had luck using the ultra short throw options. In particular, I'm looking at the Optoma CinamaX P2. Other than the close proximity to the screen, I'm not seeing any issues but I'm a n00b in the simulator realm! Thanks

Questionable whether or not it can be ceiling mounted and it seems like a terrible idea even if it could as it likely would be a target for lofted shots. If it is on the floor, I'm not sure how you could protect it from falling balls as the image is projected out of the top of the unit. Ultra short throw projectors also have pretty low suggested maximum screen size. 120in is the recommended max for the Cinema X2 which is quite small for a golf simulator screen.

Pretty much what Impliciter said above... ultra-short throws aren't great for golf sims. The best budget option in 4K is the BenQ TK850 at around $1500.

I am making the switch from Optoma 1090 to BenQ TK850. I need to move my projector further away from the screen for a couple of reasons and the 4K is a bonus. If you remind me in a couple weeks I can tell you my opinion.

FWIW, I think the 1090 is nice - no real complaints but nothing to compare it to - it just doesn't work well with my space (be mindful of enclosure interference).

        Haven't tested the 1090HDR (it's not true 4K), but love my TK850.

Foreman33 and GungHoGolf Thanks for the input guys! I'm looking to upgrade my Optoma 1080HDR in the next couple of months.

Look closely at the max screen size for these Ultra ST projectors - some are quite small max images.
