  • The new Benq TK700STI

    Hi all

i see this is coming out soon. A 4K short throw at a reasonable price £1159. I got excited as looking for the right projector for my set up 10x8 screen room 11ft x 16ft long x 9ft high. sadly the the throw ratio is longer than the th671st and It will be about a 4ft further back from ball position (in 4.3 aspect) and am worried i will have shadows. I was really looking for a 4K short throw but not many around at a reasonable price. But this might be a good option for people with more space

What is the actual throw ratio of it? From the way you describe the dimensions it sounds like it's probably around 1.5?

0.9-1.08 on 16;9 aspect but that increases for a 4;3 aspect which my screen is

Do we know when it's expected to come out? I only saw a thing about signing up to be notified when it's available. I'm definitely interested.

It has keystone correction so you should be able to offset it a bit to avoid shadows. Of course this only works for people hitting from one side.

Yes i did read it has horizontal keystone. Do you think much image quality will be lost if it is maxed out on the keystone?

This will be a good 4K projector for golf sim use. Throw distance with a 9' tall screen is only 14'4" (vs 18'1" with the TK850), and the horizontal keystone adjustment will allow off-center mounting. We'll be testing one as soon as we can get our hands on it.

Yes agreed I think this will really appeal as a 4k short throw, hopefully will live up to expectations.

I was planning on buying the TH671. Looks like I'm getting this now, and most likely a new GPU for my computer, haha!

I got the 671st in my new garage build about a month ago. While good it is not anywhere near the image on a cheap LED flatscreen. This projector sounds like a good candidate for sim use but with screen limitations for sims is it worth the extra $1000 vs the 671. This question applies to all 4Ks for sim use. Convince me. Show me your 4K screens vs 1080p.

If your LED flatscreen was the same size as your sim screen it would look similar. It's all about the pixels.
                4k has 4 pixels for every 1 pixel in a 1080p image.
It also depends on how far away you are from the screen and what type of screen you have (net, preferred, premium, etc)

Watch Golf Simulator Videos, Garage Golf or anyone else that demos the BenQ LK953ST on youtube.

It also has a lot to do with the screen you project on. If you are using a golf impact screen you will never have the best images.

Looks pretty nice though a bit low on Lumens (3000). That said, my experience with BenQ projectors is that the stated Lumens is an accurate representation so it should work well assuming you can control ambient. Will keep my eye on it.

I also noticed the lumens being a bit on the low side. And with the throw ratio being what it is, I might be a bit worried about brightness.

They have it on projector central already so you can play with the throw distance tool =

Calculate the perfect throw distance and screen size for your BenQ TK700STi projector with the ProjectorCentral Projection Calculator Pro.

What is the ability to run 4K dependent upon? GPU? Graphics card? Trying to determine if my computer is capable of outputting 4k. (I don't use a monitor; the image on my impact screen is my only image).

A good question The software needs to be 4k compatible which I think most are certainly E6 connect. Then a high end powerful graphics card for really good quality 4k- but if you dont have a high end one like the new RTX 3 series it wont necessarily mean you wont acheive 4k its just that it wont be as smooth and the highest quality detail will be reduced on your 4k

You need a powerful graphics card to run cutting-edge PC games at 4K resolution. These high-end GPUs are the top performers we've tested for pixel-packed gaming.

Hacker1 -- Thank you, that is helpful. I just have the run-of-the-mill NVIDIA GTX 1060, which I'm guessing won't perform all that well in 4k (if at all?)

            • #12
There's always a compromise and you have to see what works for you best. In my case I have no ambient light but others may find the lumens slightly on the low side but if you want a 4k with 5-6000 lumens then be prepared to fork out a lot more! Purely looking at value for money and comparing to the 671ST I think this should be strong contender
