  • Ceiling or floor mount

    Putting in Optishot 2. 12' wide 12' tall 24' long room. 10' wide impact screen. Wondering if anyone has idea about which would be best projection from ceiling mount or floor mount. Also how far back is your sensor mat from screen. Thanks

    Either floor or ceiling, both have their risks I guess, floor could be hit by ball, ceiling by club. I personally have ceiling mount offset from my swing area and works perfect. Others swear by floor mount

    As for mat distance from screen I have mine at around 9ft back from screen.. gives an immersive feel and lauch angle of ball on screen looks quite realistic to me, almost as if its come off your actual club

      At 12' high, go with floor mount. Lots of options here.

        I'll soon be facing a similar question. Why do you suggest this for 12' high? Are you saying since that is a high ceiling the floor mount will work better? Or do you see that as a low ceiling? My ceiling is 9.5' so wondering what you would recommend with respect to ceiling or floor mount. Not sure which system yet but the more I've been reading I'm probably leaning to ProTee although I might still consider a GC2 with ProTee/TGC software. Thanks.

          Things to think about:

          Will you have enough height and be able to build a 4"-5" platform so that the projector can sit on the floor in front? Might be tight.

          It is nice to have a short throw projector and set in front so that there are no chance of shadows on the screen when hitting. Only shadows when picking up balls. Also nice so that if you have an overhead net you don't have a projection issue with the shadow from the net in the picture if the net hangs down a bit. Also easy to move out of the way. Still need to protect the projector from balls bouncing back to it.

          Cost of a HD short thrown compared to standard HD.

          Check out the throw distance on projectors to see how far back you need to be to fill your screen size.

            Most projectors need to be inline with the top of the screen for best performance (no keystone). 12 feet is 2 feet above the screen. You can drop the projector to 10 feet. With a short throw, there are no shadows.

              From experience - the "keystone" issue is over-rated. It is near impossible to position a projector optimally, so it's likely that you have to use the keystone adjustment. With modern projectors it does not affect the image appreciably.
              Also - 12 foot ceilings would suggest that a ceiling mounted projector will work well. Even a short throw projector should be out of harm's way.
              The drawback to floor mounted projectors is the "bump" that the housing makes on the floor - pretty hard to putt over.

                With the width of the room, the hitting area may be offset from center, so the projector on the floor might not be directly in front of the hitting/putting area.

                  Posted this elsewhere but bears repeating:

                  My short throw projector is mounted 7 feet from the impact screen, 11 feet above the hitting surface. The sensor pad hitting tee is 10 feet from the impact screen.

                  My experience has been that no golf ball has come remotely close to striking the projector. To hit the projector would require a launch angle of 67 degrees.

                  Best guesstimate for how far from the impact screen lob wedges have hit the ceiling is 2 feet away. That's a good 5 feet from the projector.
