Projector in Garage - Cold Temp Impact

Im still in the planning stage of my build...hoping to start in about a month or so.

My set up will be in the garage (and will be taken down each time Im done using) and I have been thinking that I would floor mount the projector so that I can move it out of the way when not in use, and also to keep it protected from the cold temps in my garage.

It seems as though a lot of people who are doing the garage set up are ceiling mounting. Do yall just have temp controlled garages or live in warm climates? Im in Nebraska and while I have a small heater in my garage, it can get chilly in there. For example, I can set my temperature to 40, but when its -10 out and Im shoveling the driveway with the garage door open that small heater cant keep up.

Just wondering what yall do with temp control in the garage and how cold is "too cold" to not harm the projector?

My setup is in my garage with a furnace which keeps it at 40 degrees and have had no issues. Honestly I wouldn't think being colder would hurt it, especially if the garage is warmed up before actually turning it on.

Mine is in the garage... I have a small electric ceiling-mounted heater from Northern Tool (was $175 I think) that keeps it toasty when doors are closed, but if the doors get opened, it gets cold real quick. When it's winter, and I know I'll be playing that day, if i need to open the door, I close it as quick as possible.

I also have my projector floor mounted due to a few factors (ceiling height, hitting off-center, enclosure blocking image).

what type of enclosure do you have?

cgdavis_2 i have the 5' enclosure from Carls. It's nice because it protects the walls and ceilings from shanks, but is also a reason I cannot put the projector on the ceiling

I live in Ontario Canada. I have a ceiling mounted projector that can be taken down in seconds so that i can take it in for the same reasons you mentioned. I have left it up for 3 years now without any issues. I'm pretty sure electronics can handle the cold but you have to be careful with moisture. I have a heater in the garage that gets the heat to 20C (around 70F) in about an hour regardless of how cold it is outside. In my opinion that gives the projector enough time to climatize before turning it on. This is probably not what experts would recommend but I just wanted to give you my own experience.

What projector mount do you have? Is it quick release? Which garage heater do you have?

Only issue I've had with my projector is a surge one day. Needed to RMA it. Electronics like the cold.

I live in Chicago area and my garage is not insulated. At first I was worried about the cold temperatures affecting the lamp life of my projector. So far I have not had any issues. My first projector lasted 3 years without any issues and then I upgraded it a year and a half ago. My second projector is still going strong.

During January amongst my garage will get down to low 30s and I use a space heater and propane heater to get it up to the 50s.

Summertime garage will get up to the high 80s low 90s and I use a portable AC and fan right next to me.

No issues here either. Garage well below freezing most of the time
