  • More important, Lumens or Resolution?

Hi, newbie here. Likely getting EyeXO and 4:3,10' wide screen. I have been using Optishot IR mat for years, so I have a Viewsonic https://www.viewsonic.com/eu/products/archive/PJD7820HD projector already. I also have the option to get a cheap NEC PA903X ($100) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...xoCO_cQAvD_BwE.

The NEC has 9000 lumens, but only XGA. The Viewsonic has 3000 lumens, but HD.

Is either decent for this application or will I be incredibly frustrated? I am still researching the best mounting placement for either projector, but I have a friend that has a BEN-Q that's about 14' from the screen. If this will be the same, I imagine the lumens would come in handy. thanks!

Resolution trumps brightness. XGA will look very pixelated at golf impact screen size. That NEC is a fine projector ($4600 retail), but it may not have a lens suitable for the throw distance you'll want (no more than about 14' from screen) - see https://www.projectorcentral.com/NEC...ulator-pro.htm, and make sure you select the lens which is on it. The price of a suitable lens will probably shock you (I'm guessing here, but likely $1500-2000).

Note: the brightest projector in the world will look terrible if you have ambient light hitting the impact screen - you'll have no contrast or blacks in the image (white screen can only get as dark as it looks without the projector on). A relatively low-lumen projector (3,000) will look awesome if you control the ambient light in the room.

Your Viewsonic PJD7820HD has a longish throw - an 8' tall image will require the projector to be 16'4" back lens to screen, which will lead to shadows of your head and shoulders on the screen (see https://www.projectorcentral.com/Vie...ulator-pro.htm).

A better HD choice would be a short throw like the very popular BenQ TH671ST which we carry ( see https://store.gunghogolf.com/BenQ-TH...NEW-p265749740).

Thanks for the info! The NEC already has a NP41ZL lens on it, which looks like can handle from 13'-30.' For the price, I may use this (pixalated is it may be) for a bit while I recover from the shock of the Eye XO.

Sorry, read it wrong - 7-10ft throw?
