  • Projector decision

I am in the process of my simulator build. I will be using the Uneekor EYEXO on a 187" diagonal screen. The EYEXO will be 3'6" in front of my tee location, which is 12' from the screen. I will be using a 16:9 ratio.

I am trying to decide between the BenQ TK700STi 4K projector with a metal halide bulb at 3,000 lumens with a throw distance between 13'4" and 14'8"
    -OR-
    a BenQ LH710 1080P laser projector at 4,000 lumens with a throw distance between 15'4" and 19'10".

The real decision is between 4K and 1080P. Comparison specs are at this site: https://www.projectorcentral.com/pro...56&pid_2=11239

    I appreciate any input.

I had to go from 5000 lumens with a Panasonic PT-VZ580 to 4200 lumens with a Optoma 1090HDR. Its noticeably dimmer and compared to the Panasonic the Optoma is Meh. Only bring it up because I think for Sim play every Lumen matters, I wouldnt even consider 3000 lumens personally. My first Projector was a BenQ 2150ST 2200 lumens, the experience at that brightness is really hard to enjoy.

Either choice is good and you can't go wrong with BenQ. I have the 2150st with 2200 lumens, a LOT of ambient lighting including 4 other tvs and neon signs, and I still have enough brightness.

I would take into consideration its potential mounting location and/or whether or not the Uneekor, yourself, or a swing of the club will cast a shadow if that's bothersome to you.

        On a largish golf screen:

HD (1,080 vertical pixels): noticeable pixellation on the "artificial" elements of the image: text, lines, etc. Edges of text will be jagged pixels if you look closely from hitting distance. Organic elements like fairways, trees, and greens, will look very similar.

WUXGA (1,200 vertical pixels): similar to above

4K (2,160 vertical pixels): all visible pixellation goes away unless you put your face up to the screen and look at the smallest text

My choice of the above two projectors would be the TK700STi. The shorter throw will help you avoid shadows, particularly if your ceiling is on the low side. 3,000 vs 4,000 lumens isn't a big deal, as long as you're controlling the ambient light in the room (and if you're not, even a 5,000+ lumen projector will have a washed-out image).

Keep in mind that you'll need a more powerful graphics card for 4K, which will typically add $1,000 to the price of the computer.
