  • BenQ LK953ST vs BenQ LK936St

I'm debating between the BenQ LK953St and LK936ST. They seem to be very similar. Does anybody have a reason to go with one over the other? It'll be for a Golf Sim/media room.

The 936 is just updated to be more golf simulator focused.

I think the best new feature is 16:10 aspect ratio. You get extra height versus 16:9 for a more immersive feel.

Both are great. The 936 is replacing the 953, and is a slightly smaller form factor with similar specs. Aspect ratio with either one may be customized via your PC to perfectly fit your screen.

I saw on one of the reviews that the 936 will get a firmware update that will resolve or minimize the issue when using high speed cameras. Does anyone know if that update will go to the 953 as well?

I doubt it but I guess anything is possible. This has more to do with the Texas Instruments chip inside the projector as I’m not sure they are using the same chip.

I really doubt this is a huge focus for them. The percentage of users with this issue is fairly low.

I haven't heard that, but honestly I don't see it as a big problem. If I'm looking at my swing, I don't care if the projected image on the video has a flicker - it doesn't affect seeing the swing. If I'm trying to shoot a video where both swing and projected image look good, and not trying to analyze the swing (freeze the club), I'm using a slower shutter speed so both look good.

Appreciate the questions on the BenQ LK936ST, as I currently have a Optoma EH460ST being used in a 4:3 format in a 10x10 room. Would upgrading be a huge quality of image upgrade as I don't have the room to go 16:9. Thanks

Yes, the image quality upgrade will be huge between those two projectors, even at 10 ft wide. Keep in mind you'll need a PC with a graphics card capable of pushing 4K pixels (typically in the $2K range instead of $1K range for HD-capable gaming PCs).
