  • Optoma GT1080 vs. BenQ 1085ST

I just bought the last two pieces of the puzzle. HQ screen from Par2Pro USA (Preston is great to work with) and the projector. I was on the phone with the rep at projector people who recommended the GT1080ST over the EH200ST due to the higher contrast same lumens and $200 less.

Has anyone used this Pj with the HQ screen? I remember goodmatt78 saying it seemed washed out compared to the BenQ, but I was thinking maybe it was a defective unit. It says it has a higher contrast ratio and higher lumens. Does anyone know how this one could be worse with those stats?

Would the BenQ HT1085ST work well to project from 12-14' to a 10x10 screen?

Go to projectorcentral, look up the projector and you can play around with the dimensions to see what you will get from that distance.

    No problem for that projector.

Saw this was bumped and thought I would add for anyone considering a purchase. I have a GT1080 about 10' away projecting a very nice 16x9 image.

I agree, months later i still love the projector. Just make sure you get the correct ceiling mount. The first 2 Projector Central recommended did not fit. You need a Triangle mount.

After reading this forum's posts (which I totally appreciate), I was leaning towards the Benq 1050ST. I found that it is no longer in production and that Benq 2050 is the nearest replacement. I don't find any mention of the 2050 and was wondering if it would work for a simulator set up.

I just bought a 1085 from Benq direct and a mount. Call and ask for Shane. They had a back to school discount and discounted the mount for me too. I called another online retailer trying to see if they would discount it more and they told me the Benq direct price was very good and to buy it directly. The new model is Very similar but a faster refresh rate for games and a few other items. I think the throw distance was the same but I would verify before buying. There was a feature that didn't make it to the new one. Can't remember what it was. The new model didn't wasn't worth the extra money for me. I still haven't used it yet. I am just starting to collect things for my sim build.
