  • Looking for a native 16:10 short throw projector.

    I have a wall size of 17' x 11', and I'm looking for a HD native 16:10 short throw projector to fill a 15' x 9'5" screen size.

I'm looking to install the ProTee system. Most of the projectors being discussed in this forum is for the 16:9 format, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Most projectors are variable. I have a BenQ1080st now Sold as the 1085st. It is native to whatever signal if gets. I ran 16:10 on a 16' wide screen 14.5 feet from the screen. I now run it 16:9. The projector will run anything.

Check out Panasonic PT-VZ570. Not technically "short throw" but can project 16 x 10 foot image -native WUXGA (1920x1200) - with 17 foot throw distance.

I thought the BenQ1085ST native format is 16:9 (1920x1080). Can Protee running TGC be setup to run 16:10 using the BenQ1085ST? My understanding is that the projector would convert the input resolution to the native resolution in this case 1920 x 1080?

As I said I ran 16:10 in TGC for a year on that projector. No issues. If turn the projector on with no signal it'll display the BenQ logo in 16:9. If you hook it up the a PC set to 16:10 it'll display 16:10. That's how I ran it.

TGC will run on any resolution and aspect ratio supported by your graphics card and monitor/projector. If you do not find any 16:10 resolutions in the list (1920x1200 for example) then your hardware does not support it.

Hey mthunt. What throw distance were u at to run 16:10 at 16ft wide?

projector central calculations are very confusing to me, and with the 1080st, it doesn't give a 16:10 option... and it seems like every projector I looked at, to get an image around 15 ft or wider, the throw distance is outside of the "green recommended range." Does that matter?

                Thanks!

how far were u hitting from the screen? Any shadow issues with projector at that distance?

I'm 10 feet. No shadows at all. It's perfect.

I second this recommendation. Lumens are very important to consider as well.

Won't 17 feet on a 10 foot ceiling give you shadows?

Depends how tall you are and your tee position. Need to do a scale drawing to verify.

My ceilings are 12 feet and no shadows. As above, simple geometry drawing/equation will give you an idea if shadow present or not. Also all/most projector sellers allow a certain amount of hours before can be returned. I suggest projectors are purchased and "test drive". Also as mentioned above with this projector 4800 L thus can play golf with ambient light and have bright/crisp images.
