  • 16:9 vs 4:3

Any thoughts on this. Most movies are formatted for 16:9 but I am unsure what TGC is formatted for. My projector (Optima GT1080) is native 16:9.

I am in process of redesigning my room and I am currently in 4:3 but I am planning on going to 16:9 with the thinking that bigger is better.

Am I thinking right? or am I missing something.

Movies are filmed in 2.35:1. TV is 16:9. TGC is super compfortable in any format. You just see more of the course the wider you go.

If you can get a 16:9 format image, from floor to ceiling (9' ceilings make your screen 16' wide), go for it. It'd be the best image possible for your projector, and the most immersive.

Most use 4:3, projected from floor to ceiling, because we don't have room for a 16'+ wide screen.

You might as well go for a 16:10 projector, just like I did (Epson 1985WU). To me this ratio is ideal and even more immersive than the 16:9 in my case, as it provides me with a strip of 120 extra pixels height on the upper side (1980x1200 instead of the 1980x1080 of the Full HD standard)
