  • NEW - Flightscope Mevo+

It looks like Flightscope is bringing an updated Mevo to the January PGA Merchandise Show. According to the brief blurb, this version will have skills combines and golf course simulation. Another exhibitor, Awesome Golf, is listed as a new simulation partner for Flightscope, and I assume that this is the software that might work with this new Mevo. Looks like something to keep an eye on!

The metal foil provides a good reference point for the radar over a short distance.

Are the dots safe for the screen?

I think they mentioned in Cory's video that these units are available at the PGA show. By chance did anyone pick one up yet?

A YouTube pro (Scott Hogan) released an unboxing video today. States he is going to take to a range to demo and release a video, possibly as soon as tomorrow. Looked like he bought two or three units while at the show.

I apologise if this has already been stated, but does the mevo+ require an annual subscription? Like skytrak?

Not for the bundled basic package of five courses, 17 driving ranges, an added game, and use of the Skills app. Also, it includes a basic membership to MyFlightscope which provides a place for users to store swing data plus 10 "slots" to upload swing videos. (It holds up to 10 videos at a time, and you can delete old videos to make space for new ones. Higher level memberships to store more videos are available for additional fee.)

If TGC 2019 comes out soon for it at a reasonable price I am in for this unit 100%!

I agree.... this is exciting (and now I'm glad I waited on a qed...). This is the device that I was convinced Skytrak and Rapsodo was keeping under wraps. It turns out that Rapsodo did have a new device, but they went for the broader market with less features and it was Flightscope that the opportunity for an updated launch monitor with modern technology, addressing the negative aspects of it (negative is relative, btw, as the Skytrak is a great device):
        - 3second delay down to .5 seconds
        - Right and left-handedness
        - Entry level club data
        - Same price as Skytrak
        - One dot on the ball seems like a very fair sacrifice

I'm making a lot of assumptions at this point, but if it does turn out that the Mevo+ definitively will integrate with PC sim software, is there really any reason for anyone to buy a Skytrak ever again? Room dimensions may be a concern, causing some to stick with ST, but are there any other reasons?

Other then the dimensions like you said, I think these are the objective points:

-Zero compatibility for the Flightscope apps on Android and Windows. They are iOS only. Even if the simulator software connects fine on PC, you're still giving up a lot if you're not an apple user.
-Metal dots are a bigger annoyance to some then you realize. And even with dots, radar doesn't have the best accuracy reputation indoors.
-The original Mevo was a non-functional mess the first few months out of the gate and needed several firmware updates to be usable/accurate. Turned a lot of people off.
-Like it or not with SkyTrak's current silence, but their app still does a lot of things that others don't. Bag mapping for example is great.

Celeras in the video they say in a few months it will work with Android.

Also my “guess” is that the Mevo was brand new hardware for them and they probably stumbled out of the gate given it was all new. With the Mevo+ they are probably starting off a much higher base so my guess would be you won’t have a lot of those starting issues.

I agree with jrz. It looks interesting. I own a ST but if this Mevo + is for real then I would switch. I have 25’ in my sim and could easily give it 11’ or 12' of ball flight. I have a friend who is working at the PGA show. I have asked him to go and check it out and see if it is for real. It would have to work with TGC 2019 though as I purchased a lifetime with it. I don’t putt in my sim as it does not benefit my irl game so I don’t care about that. It’s club practice and playing rounds with gimmies. Might have to ask my friend to bring one back for me.

We just need someone to do a very detailed side by side analysis to see how accurate it really is

      • #98
I would do it, but my wife will kill me if I make another purchase like this... (Just bought all new clubs a month ago...) I will wait until Garage Golf and or Par2Pro do their comparisons. My interest is pushing this all through my computer. The Android part is nice (I didn't hear that last bit so that's great to know). The fact that there are so many different driving ranges is great (obviously through E6) I wonder though if you can set targets (similar to SkyTrak) and if you could do a skills challenge (Like FSX) If it can pull all this off, I mean its going to be really hard for ST to compete with this in its current iteration.

Agreed Tom. Meavo+ is a promising unit but really needs to be tested. I do think the Flightscope reps are confused regarding measured and calculated. They mentioned in the video that distance was measured which it is obviously calculated. In short everything is ultimately calculated. Even GC2 will measure and capture images but then calculates spin etc based on those images. The more accurate data that is captured, the better any calculation. What we need to see is how accurate the Meavo+ will be compared to real shots outdoors and obviously indoors compared to proven devices such as the GC2. My worry is how it will perform indoors where radar units even the Trackman are challenged. I truly hope it will be accurate at its price point, as it will be a great option for many users. Excited to see some real testing.

I'd love to see testing against the GC2 and the Skytrak on indoors use. If its as accurate as the skytrak, while including all of that software and measuring additional information regarding the club then its a winner. At the price point, it doesn't need to be GC2 or Uneekor accurate, it just needs to be Skytrak accurate.

On this forum when people say “measured” versus “calculated” they mean directly measuring the ball or club using radar or photos.

For example, measured meaning taking pictures of the ball and determining the spin directly from those pictures.

Calculated would be using some other “measured” components to determine spin like club path, face angle, speed, etc

Understood Jacked. But my point is that everything is ultimately calculated, there is no debate on that. Just because you have measured values, it doesn't mean that the calculations are accurate. The question is what exactly is acceptable.

        • Did they ever answer the question about the return policy?

(assuming you meant return policy?) - I read that it's 14 days BUT in the small print it talks about a 15% charge for restocking (it mentions this for Mevo, not sure about Mevo+...10% for other products) https://flightscope.com/sales-terms-conditions/

        • Ouch 15% restocking fee? Thats nuts.

          • Pulled the trigger on the pre-order. Looks like I'll need to buy an iOS device that will connect to my projector. Maybe will just start testing it with my wife's iPhone 11 pro before I pull trigger on a device. 15% restock fee is ridic. If the device is not working and I need to return, I will be super pissed losing $300+. Fingers crossed it doesn't suck.

            • Can anyone explain if Trackman4 can't get spin axis to measure correctly indoors, how do we win flightscope has figured it out at 10% of the price?

I'm guessing, but perhaps the sticker on the ball is what allows the less expensive tech to measure spin axis?

Trackman uses metal dots as well and still can't really measure spin axis accurately indoors.
