  • E6 Mevo+ Misreads

I finally got around to linking my E6 to my iPhone and I tried out the range for a bit tonight. I had a lot of odd reads with my 7 iron.

My normal 7 iron numbers are 120-125 mph ball speed, 6500-7500 rpm spin and launch 16.5-18.5 degrees. I had a SkyTrak
for a couple years and take lessons on a Trackman so know my numbers pretty well.

In FS Golf I see the above pretty consistently with the occasional misread on spin down at 4500 but I just toss those.

I went straight in to E6 range today and thought to myself that I was really hitting it well as my ball speed was 125+ on almost every shot even when I didn’t think I hit it great. The interface was new to me so I was really only looking at carry and ball speed which seemed to correlate (I was hitting it hard and far, or so I thought).

I hit a 7 iron with high 190s carry on about ball 7 so I looked closer at the numbers. It was 135 mph ball speed, 28 degrees launch and 7000 spin. I started looking closer now at data and a bunch were have weird numbers like this (most weren’t quite as extreme but it was clear this was where the average 10 yards extra was coming from.

I jumped over to FS Golf (adjusted to tilt) and numbers immediately back to normal.

Back to E6 (adjusted tilt with the guide this time) and a few shots were normal then it went back to the super high launch and ball speed. At this point I just went back to FS Golf and stayed there without issue.

Anyone seen this or have any ideas? Everything was exact same on all shots except the app and tilt.

I felt like I had more of the super low spin shots in TGC vs FS Golf but no other odd reads (and increased frequency may just have been feel as you remember flying a green in a round more than bombing one on the range and discarding it).

In E6, were you careful to select your 7 iron before hitting? If it thought you had a driver or a wedge, it could explain the issue.

The three I had driver selected which I noticed then switched to 7 iron and issue continued (I switched the club before I even noticed the issue was occurring).

This is super weird. I would expect all of those values to be inputs from the mevo into the e6. Did you have the same settings for "number of feet from m+ to tee"?

I did but now that you say that I didn’t see a tee height setting and my unit does sit a couple inches below the mat. I would think that would make every shot wrong not just some but that could have something to do with launch angle (but no idea why ball speed would be impacted).

I am having misread issues as well in the form of moon balls with nearly every club in both e6 and FS app. About 2 out of 10 will have an apex of 150ish feet. See screen shot below. Flightscope support said to switch to regular indoor because I have roughly 11ft of ball flight. Have not tried this yet though. Tried it at the range today and had no moon ball issues. Thoughts?

Watch where your ball hits on the screen, then measure the height of that mark from the floor, and measure your ball to screen distance. Put those two numbers in inches into sides b and a in this trig calculator to see what your vertical launch angle (A) really is:

28 deg launch is high for an 8 iron, but not completely out of the question if you’re releasing early. Otherwise shot data looks like it fits the trajectory and height.

If Mevo+ is missing the launch angle more than a degree or so, try adjusting the angle it’s sitting at - make sure adjustable stand is fully extended.

If it’s still off more than a couple degrees, it may need repaired.

Here’s a launch angle calculator I just whipped up based on my ball to screen distance of 105 inches. You can make a copy of the google sheet and put your own ball to screen distance in:

That 28.3 LA is some sort of default number. I had a ton of driver LA of 28.3 with my faulty Mevo. What are the odds of getting a bunch exactly 28.3. Wonder if it defaults to that if it does not get a good read. I’m only assuming of course.

Going back and looking at some past sessions. I had a Driver launch at 20.5* and have height of 187ft with 3000rpm, 162 ball speed, 262 carry. Everything seems accurate besides launch and height. The two drives before launched at 10* and 8*. I had 3 7i in a row with height of 150ft. Clearly miss reads but is there a fix?

Yeah I see very high launch angles with my driver in E6 too. In FS golf my driver launch angle is always 9-14 degrees and in E6 it's always between 20-25 degrees. I have seen many other weird readings in E6 too. When I hit a 10 yard flop shot the E6 shows that the ball carried 25 yards. The E6 also misses a lot more shots than FS golf and FS skills. I think all this is due to the E6 interface that gets the numbers and can't analyze them as well as the flightscope apps. This is just my hypothesis but something with E6 must be wrong.

It's not an E6 Connect problem. I see high driver launch with FS Golf, too. E6 Connect just receives the data and ball flight that Mevo+ gives it. We may be seeing higher launches on E6C since the Mevo+ needs to be set at a lower angle for sim use than for FS Golf use (in order to pick up low chips and putts) - although one would think that setup angle would be accounted for in software.

FlightScope knows about the problem, hopefully will be a firmware fix. It's no fun hitting 28 deg drives that should read half that, that's for sure.

I need to start keeping a record of my misreads and what software they happen in.

I probably use FS Golf on 90% of my shots so far and other than maybe 1/10 shots that reads low spin (not impossibly low but 4500 on 7-9 iron on decent strikes) I haven’t had a no read or totally crazy read yet.

TGC I seem to get much higher frequency of the low spin shots but nothing else crazy. Maybe perception but a lot of flown greens.

E6 I get the issues described above.

And last night I was having skin issues in FS Skills. I hit about 10 7 irons in a row in the 3-4K spin range and couldn’t get anything more.

I need more concrete data (albeit the lack of export features makes that difficult) but given how few shots I’ve hit outside FS Golf I’m amazed that almost all my weird reads are outside of it.
