  • E6 connect performance on older iPhone/iPad and Mevo+ PC sim options

    Hi,

With a bit of luck I should be getting a Mevo+ next month and given I've spent a good chunk of change on this funds are short to pay for sim software.

The Mevo+ comes with 5 courses; a range and some mini games on E6 connect but I believe that this is iOS only (which is a real shame!). Given I don't own an iOS device this doesn't help me. I do have a decent Android device but I don't believe this allows you to do much (if anything?) with the Mevo+.

So I am looking at the cheapest options available to me. I will be hitting in to a net and would have a T.V next to me so I was thinking of buying an older iPhone or iPad and either using some screen sharing software of purchasing a lightning - HDMI adapter but unsure just how old I can go. Is anyone using this on older iOS devices and could provide any feedback as to how it works with E6?

I do have a gaming P.C ready for when I can stretch to sim software. I've looked at what you can use on this in the way of demos and I believe you can get some limited functionality from E6; Creative Golf & Golfisimo. Are there any others that I've missed?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Fitness Golf has a PC demo that's good for like 30 days. I wasn't very impressed, but it's something to do other than beating balls on the range.

TGC2019 really needs to offer a demo to people. Or even if it were like a 30-day paid subscription for a trial basis.

As far as the iPads, the Skytrak website says this for iOS requirements for e6:

"Supported iOS devices: iPad Pro Gen. 1 or newer, iPad Air 2019, or iPhone 8 or newer. E6 Connect may not run well on older or weaker devices."

(I don't know if those requirements change when the launch monitor changes. My guess is that it would be consistent no matter the launch monitor)

eBay has a lot of used and refurbished iPads. Good source if you can find the right one from a trusted seller. I got an iPad Air for $95 and free shipping. Works like it's brand new.

Thanks for the reply and i will look into Fitness Golf.
I wish I could find an iPad air for anywhere near that price! Which gen iPad air is it and how well does E6 run on it?

It's an older Air and I doubt e6 would work on it (according to the listed requirements). I used it for WGT and it worked great for that until I took the plunge for a gaming PC.

I think your cheapest option is going to be to get an iOS device.. and use the included E6 package... I use an "older" iPad 6th gen, and it works just fine. Obviously the detail/graphics for sim play aren't quite as good as a PC version of E6, but honestly they aren't bad.. you just get a little less detail in the foliage and background, that sort of thing. I have no complaints about the iOS version of E6 for what you get... it's free.. no annual fees... 5 courses and a number of range options.

Without iOS you can use Android for FS Skills which is an excellent practice tool.. and FS Golf which gives you all your data points and ability to video your swing... both are great, but don't offer any good "simulation" range or courses...

If I had future plans to purchase full version of E6 or TGC and run on a PC... I'd probably look for a used iPad 6th gen or newer or iPhone that would work to get by for a while, and use an apple/firewire to HDMI adapter until I can afford the gaming PC and the $300/600 per year E6 fee or purchase TGC 2019 outright... If you don't feel you'll be going full on sim, then maybe find the newest iPad you can afford instead and enjoy the E6 package you get for free..

My setup is iPad 6th gen, attached to a Benq HT617ST projector with an HDMI adapter and works flawlessly... I don't play a lot of sim golf on course.. it's mainly an indoor practice tool in the off season, so I use FS Skills for target practice, FS Golf to work some numbers when working swing changes, or the E6 flat range for general practice 95% of the time... but I also have the ability to play a course every now and then when I want to mess around... all with no annual fees which I really hated about Skytrak. The E6 free package is perfect for me.

Thanks for the info. When I asked the official mevo+ UK reseller they stated you didn't even get a range with Android so that's good to know you at least get something.

I have the gaming PC already and if I was going to have to spend a few hundred on an iOS device I would probably save and pay for full TCG 2019 as E6 seems a lot per year to spend repeatedly.

Right.. no range options that I'm aware of for Android, as E6 has zero plans to develop E6 software for android... FS Skills is great though for practice, as is FS Golf.. just don't expect great graphics and simulated golf.. you can actually download and view the android apps without the Mevo+ connected if you are interested in getting a look at them.

I also have a 6th gen iPad . Use the $300 version of E6C it all works fine, with my Mevo+, I can also hook it up to a 18" television via an HDMI adaptor, it does not show the ipad screen in the full display. Due to the ratio orientation of the two screens, but this is something I need to look at on a rainy day.or when not playing real golf.

I play outside into a net so on sunny days you may need a cover for the television as you might not see the screen. I use a cheap £3 box from IKEA. works well. Proper shade covers for laptops / TV's are about £50 approx. $60.

Thanks for the reply and I'm interested in the IKEA box as a shade for the TV. I dont suppose you have a link or the name of the box?

The shade box from IKEA is DRÖNA
      DRÖNA
      box
      £3.00

      dark grey
      Article no: 104.439.74
If you haven't an IKEA near to you I got mine delivered, Delivery was only £3. (That was when IKEA was shut due to Corona ) The shade box also means I can use my Laptop outside as well.
I ordered E6C via Flightscope Europe.

I also tried Creative Golf, but never got it to connected to my Mevo+ The IP address were a digit across emailed Creative but never got a response.

Somewhat offtopic, but still related: is the PC e6 demo lower quality than the actual e6 software? I downloaded the e6 on PC just to see how it looked and the graphics were......not good. Is that how actual e6 looks?

The demo is full quality. Make sure you follow the instructions here to get best results with E6 Connect on PC:

E6 Connect for PC, the golf sim software by TruGolf, doesn't always use your gaming PC's Nvidia GPU by default, which can lead to jerky, stuttering graphics. This short video shows you how to improve your frame rates by configuring your computer to always use your Nvidia GPU for E6 Connect. If you have an AMD gpu, use

I use iPad Pro 2nd Gen with SkyTrak and it crashes, registers less shots and reports low battery even when at 40%. Tried iPhone 11 Max and works much better. No crashes yet and better performancee. I think you need the recent Apple iOS products to make E6 work to work well or move to a PC. I think E6 has memory leaks on iOS. I screen mirror to an Apple TV connected to a projector so using phone is fine though a latest iPad for input and additional viewing I guess would be better. I'll wait for the new ones hopefully arriving in March/April.

My iPad Air won't run E6. I also have the new ipad 8th gen and it works great for e6.

If I were you I would try the e6 PC demo and Awesome Golf demo.

Awesome golf is about the same price as new basic ipad. The graphics are cartoonish and no putting. Has great games for kids and couple of courses.

If you like the e6 play better go for the ipad instead, graphics will not be as good as PC though.

            Hi xfactor989,

I am about to get my Mevo + and need to purchase an inexpensive iPad to run it on. Looking at the 8th generation. Do you think 32GB is enough space to run e6 on or will it pretty much utilise all the storage and make the iPad unusable for additional things, i.e., should I look at purchasing the 128GB version?

            many thanks,

            Jason

May have been mentioned but if you are buying the mevo + new it comes with the demo pass for pc which has one course and I think a range.
Ive only had my mevo plus for a couple of weeks now and originally ran on an IPhone 11. I run via lightning cable to a projector and wasn’t very happy with the graphics and jumpy movements so I bought a gaming laptop. It turns out I was badly advised and turns out the one I bought isn’t quite up to minimum spec ( I have a separate thread about this) so it doesn’t have the graphics I hoped for either. If you already have a pc it does have to be pretty good to run well but you will at least be able to try it out for free to get a feel for if you like it. If you have no plans to run through a projector I would say any of the more capable iOS devices would be fine

I downloaded the demo for E6 and the flyover worked on my IPad Air 2. I ended up purchasing a slightly used cellular IPad Pro 11”. As far as I could tell, running the demo (fly over) the graphics were better than the Air 2 and it was a lot more smooth.

if you are using pc, I would also suggest Creative Golf 3D. Their software doesn’t demand a powerful graphics card and from the YouTube videos I have seen, it’s worth trying out to see if you like it.

I was mistaken in my iPad model. It is the original iPad Air, which will not run E6

I am running E6, FS golf and FS skills on my IPAD Air 2.
i bought the apple certified lighting to HDMI cable.

It works great no issues yes the graphics are not the best but I do not mind as my garage setup is not permanent I need to park a car in there.

I haven’t received my Mevo Plus but they must of given them my email address as one of E6 connect sales associates reached out to give me pricing for their software. I specially asked them if the IPad Air 2 would be sufficient and if users can use their Mac computers instead of PC.

This was their response. “An IPad Air 3 is required for the software to run. As far as MacOS- we are not integrated, but I have heard of people running Bootcamp and getting the software to work - I would DEFINITELY recommend trying the demo prior to purchasing.”

Do not forget tech support is reading off a support sheet. As I said my setup is using IPAD air 2. I would not post anything on this site that would not to assist a fellow simulator member. If, you need to buy a new iPad go get the newest iPads as they will handle the graphics better than older generations.

If you own the Mevo+ you get E6 connect for free using IOS there is no need to purchase the software unless you want to run it from a PC.

I’m not questioning you. I’m more annoyed that their own customer service is giving people the wrong information. I happen to be on CL and found a great deal for an IPad Pro 11 cellular so I jumped on it.
