  • Metalic dots for lower spin rate

My initial impressions of the Mevo+ was there was not much difference with using the metalic dot vs not using it... I want to correct the record on that. For driver the metalic dots are a must to get accurate spin rates. I don't see any real difference with my irons or wedges, but was doing some testing with different driver shafts recently and was not really seeing any spin changes between the three shafts I was using. During this testing I was not using any metalic dots. So for a test I tried some shots with the metalic dots and immediately noticed a huge difference between the three shafts. You also need to position the ball so that the metalic dot faces the screen for best results. I experimented with putting the dot facing me or facing away from me and got some strange results with shot shape and launch angles being low.

One other observation is I seem to get better results at 7ft Mevo+ to ball vs 8ft. Now instead of thinking the Mevo+ is reading my driver spin high, I sometimes wonder if it's actually reading it too low. I'll take it though and I'm seeing 15 - 20 yards more driver distance with the new shaft and metalic dot combo.

Hopefully this information helps some others who have complained about high driver spin. Make sure you use the dot and put the Mevo+ at 7ft or 7.5ft. Closer than the 8ft seems to be what gets me the best results. I'm using this at 12 degrees with E6 connect. This was also the case for FS Golf at 15 degrees for me, so either software option performed better using this approach.

I'm surprised you don't see a difference in spin reads with wedges when using/not using metallic stickers. With stickers, I have no trouble spinning a sand wedge 10-11K on a full shot. Without stickers, spin will max out at about 7-8K.

Improved driver reads (not inflated spin numbers or VLA) was all about ball flight distance for me. 9' of flight had a large number of driver misreads. 10' improved things. 12' and the problem is for the most part gone.

I like the unit at 7' behind the ball, too. I'd rather give up distance there than between ball and screen.

I've had it confirmed from Flightscope support that without the dots the spin readings are estimated in both short indoor and indoor mode. So you may see readings without dots the seem about right but these are estimated, not measured.

Does anyone have experience with the overlapped snowman dot layout vs a single dot for short indoor mode? I have read it helps with readings if you put the ball with the center of the snowman line pointing towards the target.

I find the driver readings are horrid. AOA, Smash, Speed carry. It's a joke. I'm not just talking inside either outside as well. I spayed foot spray on it to get an idea smash 1.2 foot spray right near the center. Something is very very off with the driver and mevo+ Granted the person swinging is a 10 year old girl with swing speed around 75. On the shot I'm referencing shot a flag to gain better idea no where close to the real carry. For reference the irons seems on par except AOA again I have no faith in the number its providing. Surely it has nothing to do with her speed and length of the driver to why its so far off.

I have two kids ages 10 and 12. Both get decent results with the unit. My sons swing speed is in the high 50's and daughters is in the low 60's and numbers seem to be spot on for them when using the metalic dot and outdoor sessions. We have taken it out to the range and course and I think it has been spot on for both kids swing speed and distances. Son hits it about 120 - 130 carry and daughter around 135 - 145 on well struck shots. Seems to be about right for what we are seeing when we play. The kids are not as consistent with yardages and distances just yet, but they are still beginners and learning. The great thing is they now know their numbers vs telling me they just hit one 200 yards, they know better now. Can't fool the radar unit. It's been good to keep the egos in check in our household. Also been good motivation for the kids to compete with each other. I will say I think the kids get more roll on the course vs what the Mevo+ reads, so total distance I think is a little short for them, but I think the carry numbers are really close.
