  • Mevo+ and external battery pack recommendations

I’m curious what sort of external battery packs folks are hooking up to their Mevo+, and why they chose them. Seeing photos and videos I see it’s fairly common, but I’m curious what brand/make/parameters they went with and most importantly “why”. Flight scope is pretty clear about using only their power bricks and cord for charging otherwise you void the warranty - so I’d like to know what gave folks confidence to try something else? Thanks for any input

It's important to have 5V/2.4A output.

Hey, thanks for the feedback and suggestion. I'm assuming that is a minimum requirement? So if I have an Anker Powercore 20100 that has 5v/4.8A split between two ports for "up to 2.4a per slot" I should be ok...?

Discover Anker and shop chargers, batteries, hubs, docks, portable power stations, conferencing gear, and more.

Anyone ever use an Anker Powercore?

That's a precise requirement. If you exceed those voltages and amps you can damage the Mevo+. The Anker *should* be safe when using only one slot.

I've been using this one for a while now and it works well - https://www.amazon.com/15000mAh-Port..._dp&th=1&psc=1

I bought mine off Amazon but I believe Flightscope was selling them (not sure if they still do). The caveat is that its 2.1A output and Flightscope now recommends 2.4A - 3A output so I would look for that. I can run hours off this battery and use it to charge the unit so I'm not even using the provided adapter plug anymore. But you do STILL need to use the provided micro-usb cable as the Raspberry Pi board is very sensitive to voltage fluctuations.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the insight. I've been looking all over the Flightscope web page and have yet to find anything. So I much appreciate it.

I purchased the same battery pack directly from Flightscope. After seeing one of their FAQ emails recommending 2.4 to 3A, I quenstioned FS and the answer below is what I received

The battery pack that you received with the FlightScope will be fine. The specs for the Power Supply should be 5V DC +/- 5%; >2 A, so both the 2.1A or 2.4A will be fine.

Overnight I got the following from FlightScope support - tracks w everything you guys said, just slower in response

            Thank you for contacting FlightScope.

Please see below external and 3rd party recommended chargers and charging cables we suggest and approve for use with the Mevo+.

            3rd Party PSU info:
The Mevo+ is supplied with a very short charging cable. Here is the charger we suggest people purchase if they need more cable length:
5V 2.5A Raspberry Pi 3 B+ Power Supply/Adapter and can be bought from:
3rd Party External Battery Pack info:
In general an external battery back with a USB output of 5V 2.1A or higher is acceptable, here is a very handy one that has been tested:
