  • FSX 2018 is very good

I got FSX 2018 yesterday. I am very new to FSX, but I can say for sure the graphics difference from FSX to FSX 2018 is huge. I was not impressed with the graphics in the old version. I even own the expensive courses, and the graphics were marginal. FSX 2018 is a huge difference in the graphics quality! I would say the included courses graphics are about as good as TGC, and the expensive courses look even better than TGC. I am extremely impressed with the graphics quality with FSX 2018. I have not spent enough time to tell you about other features added or upgraded.

  • I would like to add a camera, anyone got and recommendations on a good camera?

      • I got this on ebay.

Works great getting around 100 fps and the wide angle variable zoom is great for camera placement. I have ordered a second one to try 2 cameras together

Yes it was FSX 2018. I had to drop down to 640 x 480 and use the mjpg format. It shows 60 fps on the main screen but 100 on the Properties menu and I believe the 100 fps is the accurate number because the resolution on my downswing is very good. The light sensitivity is pretty good, it is a new ELP OV2710 sensor. I suspect I may be able to get a higher fps by increasing the lighting and decreasing the exposure, I am just using the auto settings. I am not sure what contributes the most to fps. I am using an i7 laptop with a 1060 video card and a high speed ssd. Would be interested to see what others get.

      • I am completely clueless when it comes to adding a camera but so want to do this. Are they simply plug and play? Feel free to talk to me like a 2nd grader.

Any usb camera detected by windows should work. I really like the BRIO but it’s a little pricey. The c920 is good bang for you buck. The web cams handle poorly lit sim rooms well. I got a 330 FPS China cam and it was just too dark imho.

It is just plug and play. You get all of the resolutions from 1920 x 1080 down to 320 x 240. The light sensitivity is quite good, as good as the Microsoft Lifecam that I was using before and could only get 30 fps.

      • This is the one I tried. I didn’t like how hard it was to get a decent picture in a dim sim room.

i have two I would sell cheap but again I didn’t think it was very good quality. Maybe they will work in someone else’s setup better than mine.

            • If you collapse the upper status bar and only have the small status box in the upper left corner, it shows the distance to the pin in feet. Sometimes you have to wonder how things like this make it through QC.

              • I thought I would address a couple things I've seen pop up on this thread. When I initially installed FSX2018 the text was small and jagged, impossible to read, and the graphics looked like crap. I emailed them about it, and their solution worked great.

Whatever resolution you play the game at (for me it's 1440p) set your desktop that resolution, and then set the "scale" setting to 100%. I had my scale setting at 200% for larger icons/windows when I was using the computer to launch other apps and get online. By adjusting the scale setting to 100%, all the text smoothed out and became an appropriate, easy to read size. They said their engineers are aware of this and are working on it.

I also use 2 cameras in my setup. They work great, however (I'm using dual monitors) I find it very annoying that it only shows one camera on the automatic replay. If I want to view the other camera, I need to go into analysis mode, click camera, then click the "2" to get the second camera. It would be much better if it played both cameras side by side on the replay.

For the "show camera on map" function, that flawlessly shows you both cameras in the corner of your screen before you hit your shot.

                • have you let them know about the 2 camera replay feature? I totally agree with that and hope they plan to fix it. I'd also like to have both videos uploaded to the performance site.

The show camera on map is a live view for the most part, maybe so you can checks setup? I find it strange that we can't have the map and two videos with dual display. plenty of real estate on the screen.

                  • They said they are adding the 2 camera replay feature to the website shortly as they are aware of it. I'll email them now about the dual camera replay, it's the one thing I feel I'm really missing out on. I wish the second screen should just loop the replay instead of only showing it for 5 seconds and then going back to a mirrored screen of the playing field.

                    • Metric question.
For those who use meters, do you see meters or feet on short putts? This was one issue with FR1 that they never did fix. Like 6 meter or longer would show meters and everything shorter was shown in feet, not that great :-) ( i did have a conversion chart on my wall for this)

                      • Good special going on for 5 courses - $300. Use code PGACHAMP and checkout. Nice to finally see the full library on their online store too.

                        • Got a brio camera, picture good in dark but too fast at 30fps so no good for analysis. Contacted Foresight who didn’t get back to me about cameras they sell but did say to me that they were currently testing several new cameras for FSX. Ordered two cameras from eBay (ones that run at 100fps) so will test them hopefully next week.

                          • Check off the low light compensation in your Logitech software and you’ll get 60 FPS.
