  • Metal GC2 Enclosure

I have had several people ask if I could design a metal enclosure since Foresight discontinued their "shank tank". I have a preliminary design that I was hoping to get feedback on. To try and minimize the cost, I was thinking about leaving the back open. In my view, the main advantage of covering the back was that you could lock the GC2 inside for retail locations. I don't think it adds any protection from an errant shot, so my thinking is that most home users wouldn't care. It looks like I could sell this design for around $150 + shipping if I get them made in batches of 10. They would be powder coated black. It has slots for the HMT arm as well. Since the plastic shield sells for $200, that seems like a good value to me, but if you guys think that price would be too high I won't move forward with having them made. I would be using a local metal shop that I have done business with in the past rather than outsourcing it overseas, and I don't want to sink a whole bunch of money into inventory by ordering a large quantity, which makes the manufacturing cost a little higher than I was hoping. (ignore the black line on the left top part of the enclosure, that is an artifact of my CAD software)

I hit a variety of wedges, irons and drivers from all over the hitting zone. Early on I had a few one dot readings with my 7 iron in the top right of the hitting zone but after replacing the dots I didn’t see that any more, so I think they were probably just old. In theory that should be the worst area for the HMT to see so I focused on that the most. I attached a few more pictures as well. Ignore the scratches in the paint. I just spray painted this one because I didn’t want to pay extra for powder coating one unit that would most likely need to be modified anyway. You can see how the cutouts don’t quite align exactly but even so it still works. That will be fixed in the final version. I also used an angle grinder to widen the HMT slot on one side so that looks a little ugly compared to the CNC routing that the shop does.

That case is looking great. Count me in for one. Thanks for your work!

The manufacturer offered to weld and grind the seams on the enclosure before powder coating it for an extra $15. It would look nicer but not provide additional protection. Is that something you guys would be interested in?

I would pay the extra $15 for the nicer look.

I agree with everyone else that the case looks awesome. Thank you so much for putting this together! I get so nervous when I have family and friends try out my sim. There have been several near misses. Divots in my drywall are one thing, but a damaging hit to the GC2 would be very bad news I would definitely be interested in buying one from you.

I’d take one, with the welding.

Any updates on this build? I’m still interested for one without the welding but with a back plate if your still adding that option..

I ordered 10 with welding and will have back pieces available for anyone who wants them. I can’t do some with and some without welding at this point because I really need to be placing larger orders to get the cost down. They should be done around the end of September. If the first 10 get good reviews, I will place a larger order.

Has the first 10 orders been spoken for? If not, I'll take one.

I’m not doing any sort of list at this point. Once they come in I will test them one more time and then do the first ten people who PayPal me. I will be ordering more once a few other people give positive feedback though

I'll be sure to keep an eye out on this thread to get my order in. Currently running that Lego one from Ebay and not a fan.

Throwing my hat in there for interest in the GC2 case.
BTW, I haven't read the 2nd and 3rd pages of this thread yet but I bought HMT cable on ebay that fits flat for less than $5.

Which length did you buy and does it work without any issues? I'm assuming the 3' one since that's the one for $5. I purchased an aftermarket flat one from amazon, but that one didn't work.

I can confirm 100% it works. I bought the shortest length at 3 ft which can be tightened and adjusted by keeping the tie wrap on.
You can see this screen shows the HMT data.

LOL! I guess we'll have to be refreshing this page every hour of every day.

Can you give us an approx timeline when you'll be posting it?

I will post when I pick them up, most likely some time next week. It will probably take me a couple of days to test and assemble them. I will try and be specific and give at least a days heads up. If you don’t get in on the first batch, it will probably be another 3-4 weeks before the next batch, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
