  • Metal GC2 Enclosure

I have had several people ask if I could design a metal enclosure since Foresight discontinued their "shank tank". I have a preliminary design that I was hoping to get feedback on. To try and minimize the cost, I was thinking about leaving the back open. In my view, the main advantage of covering the back was that you could lock the GC2 inside for retail locations. I don't think it adds any protection from an errant shot, so my thinking is that most home users wouldn't care. It looks like I could sell this design for around $150 + shipping if I get them made in batches of 10. They would be powder coated black. It has slots for the HMT arm as well. Since the plastic shield sells for $200, that seems like a good value to me, but if you guys think that price would be too high I won't move forward with having them made. I would be using a local metal shop that I have done business with in the past rather than outsourcing it overseas, and I don't want to sink a whole bunch of money into inventory by ordering a large quantity, which makes the manufacturing cost a little higher than I was hoping. (ignore the black line on the left top part of the enclosure, that is an artifact of my CAD software)

I picked up the enclosures and I think they turned out well. I have attached some pictures. I hit shots from all over the hitting zone and it picked up all of them for both club and ball data, so I feel comfortable with sending out the first batch.

The only thing that isn't quite perfect in my opinion is the back piece. I had intended for it to hook on the top and then have enough wiggle room that you could raise it up, and then a little tab on the bottom could drop into a slot. It is slightly too tall, so the only way to get the back to fit into the slot is to undo the two screws holding the bottom on, tilt the bottom down a bit with the GC2 inside, then raise it back up and screw the screws back into place. That means you won't be able to take the GC2 back out without undoing the screws again. Alternatively, you can leave the back tilted back a bit if you don't want to lock it into place. I tried to take pictures showing what I'm talking about.

    Pricing will be as follows:
No back piece $165 + $20 shipping to continental US with Priority mail
With back piece $205 + $20 shipping to continental US with Priority mail

For the first 10, I am going to only ship them to people in the US to get feedback. Since there was concern about having to check the forum to figure out when to pay, I'm going to say the first 10 people to pay starting Monday at 12 CST will get the first batch. I will post as soon as I have received 10 payments, so check before sending. Payment will be with paypal to gc2flash@gmail.com and make sure to tell me your shipping address in the notes. I will try and get them all shipped out on Wednesday.

Here is what the back looks like if you don't latch the bottom. Notice the slight gap. The power, USB, and HMT cables all still plug in fine. The second picture shows where the back's tab is supposed to sit in.

And here is a video showing what you need to do to to latch it. https://photos.app.goo.gl/4CJaVgGEwiGChAKW9
You would undo the two back screws first, then replace them when you were done. Since you have access to all of the cable connectors, I don't see a reason you couldn't leave it in full time unless you wanted to take it to the range.

Looking good Andy - andygg1986 I would want to mount this to my moving platform - if the feet were removed would it sit flat.

Yes it is flat on the bottom. It has four tapped holes with 1/4-20 threads, but if your platform is wood you could just use wood screws through the holes.

I will ship to Canada on the next batch. This first round, I just wanted to make one trip to the US post office. I think I will probably need to use Fedex or someone else to ship to Canada

andygg1986 are you changing the design of the back piece on the next version based on what you mentioned?

I’m going to see what people think about the design as it is. 6 of the 10 people who ordered one wanted the back piece, so I will see what they say.

I’m late to the party, but hope I can get in on the next batch.
