Swing direction vs swing (club path)?

Since I don’t think gcquad measures swing direction and only club path, is there a way to work back from the numbers to figure out swing direction? How important is it to know vs the information the gcquad measures. Also when I’m hitting draws and my path is say 4* out but my AoA is down -5, what is really my club path??

I'm not sure what you're getting at, but from the info you provide it sounds like you are swinging from in to out 4 degrees or from left to right as you face the target, if right handed, and at a downward angle of 5 degrees. As I understand it, club path is swing direction and that's what the GCquad measures.

Swing Direction = Club Path. They are the same. Just like Stone, I don't really know what you're asking.

GcQ Measures it all. Club Path/Swing Path, AOA, club speed, closure rate, impact point, face angle at impact, lie angle at impact, loft at impact...

Lastly, you say your path is 4 degrees out and you're hitting draws. Path is not what tells the ball what to do, Face angle is. Club path is only a small percentage of where your ball starts.

If you mean your path is 4 degrees out to in and your club face is closed 4.5 degrees to your target, your ball will go left. That isn't a draw though, that's a pull hook. If you're saying your club path is 4 degrees in to out and your face angle at impact is 3.5 degrees relative to target, then you will draw.

      Hope that helps.

Swing path is the direction the club head is moving at impact

Swing direction is the direction the club head is moving when it reaches the bottom of the swing arc.

An example of how these can be different would be if you strike the ball before the low point of the swing arc (negative angle of attack), your club path would be measured as moving more right than your swing direction. The opposite if you strik the ball after then bottom of the arc (positive angle of attack)

this is somewhat important to know because you could technically have a out to in swing direction, but if you have a very negative angle of attack it will push your actual club path further to the right and vice versa you could have a swing direction that is in to out but a very positive angle of attack and it pushes your path left. This is why people wonder why they draw their irons but fade their driver. The positive angle of attack negates the in to out swing direction creating a path that is out to in or maybe more neutral and if the face is open relative to that path it will fade.

Thank you for the explanation! So only trackman can give data for swing direction and gcquad and trackman can give club path at impact? How can we figure out if our swing direction just using gcquad? Is it possible to work back from knowing club path and AoA? Let’s say with my 7 iron my gcquad tells me I’m i-o at 5*, and my AoA is 4*. So if my angle of attack pushes my club path an additional 2*, I’m really 7 i-o now. So can I figure out my swing direction at all?

I don’t believe you need to do any math with your quad. It reads the club path at impact in relation to your set target line so if you are hitting it before or after the low point it’s already part of that measurement. I am assuming it reads path at impact but I don’t have a quad.

I don't think you can back into it because we don't know where the low point is, in my mind you would have to know that and even then i can't fully wrap my mind around it. Think lee trevino shallow vs Brooks Keopka steep. Both could be 1* down with a 3 wood and square with their path at impact but still have very different swing directions... it think. I could be wrong but in my mind thats true.

Anyway maybe its something we can hope for with FSX Pro. I saw on one of the screen shots that the now have decent angle, who knows if its really in there given some of the other data shown but if it is that might mean they are showing some other parameters like spin loft and swing direction. I'm not holding my breath but i am hopeful.

No offense, really, but I think you guys are truly overanalyzing. Covid is making you crazy. Go play golf. You have a swing direction, you have an aoa, you have a bottom of your arc. If you think you need more data than the quad gives you, then maybe you should turn pro. Wait, they don't need that either. Where is your ball going? Maybe you should focus on that.

Ball first, put it in the cup.

Ha ha. That’s why they call you Baller! Agree gotta get it in the hole. Path is helpful to know along with club face if you are working on some technique issues. after all, those two things affect where your ball goes. No need to go down rabbit holes though, sorry if I took you there fortysixandtwo.

No offense but I don't think you're adding anything to the conversation.

It’s all good, I know the objective. I just like a little more understanding so I can have only the one way miss..almost there.Having the hmt has been a huge improvement to understanding my swing...

What I wouldn’t give at this point to get back to a one way miss I’ve played for decades. For whatever reason this last Indoor season messed me up
