I'm getting a new gc2 with FSX this month and need to pick 5 courses. Any suggestions?

Hey, I'm in the same boat, although I only have two to select. I got Teton Pines with the unit and FSX when I bought it. I would like to think that courses like Oakmont, Merion and Congressional would be cool to have because they have history and are classic courses. I have heard that some of the courses are more demanding on graphics cards than others, and so may hiccup from time to time when playing depending on how beefy your computer is. I got a laptop from Foresight and it has i7 processor and a Nvidia GTX 950M card. Not the beefiest of computers but it exceeds the published specs from Foresight, and I did get it from them.
Anyway, it would be cool for you to get a mixture of styles of courses to play. Hopefully, a few people with chime in and it will show a consensus on what the top courses by style are. -
I know I'm surprised no one has responded yet? I have hear the same thing about the computer so I ordered my own from Alienware with the fastest i7 Chip and the 970 Graphics card and 16 MB of Ram. Alienware was having a great sale this month (ended yesterday) so it cost me the same as a basic computer....Comment

The best courses for me are the flatter ones since this is more closely mirrors the lie you have on your mat. I have 8 courses in FR1. I do not have FSX but the courses are the same with different resolution. Pebble Beach, Firestone, Torrey Pines South, Baribizon at the Belfry, La Tempe and Turnberry are fairly flat. Spyglass, Olympic not so much.
The design of hilly courses take into account the kind of side hill, uphill, downhill lies you would have playing the real courses. In simulation these lies are not possible due to the hitting mat being perfectly flat all the time.
I have played Olympic and Spyglass and for the most part the only flat lies at those courses are in the parking lot.
However in the end it is about what you are looking for in simulated courses. I use mine strictly for practice during the colder months and playing hilly courses just confuses the practice results since my mat lie is perfectly flat all the time.

I have quite a few of the FSX courses and my experience that the best courses are:
Cog Hill Love this course. Very well done
Couer D'Alene Also a very nice course well represented on FSX
Flint Hills Great course. Good rendition of a top 100 course
Broken Tree Graphically impressive, cool layout but a fantasy course that really doesn't lay out like a real golf course. Fun though
La Jolla Pines aka Torrey Pines South Highly recommended. Beautifully done, but it can be a stretch on some of the video card
Nine Lakes Incredible real Florida course. Loxahatchie I believe. Terrific layout and challenging. I don't see it on the catalog though
Teton Pines Very good course that you can't go wrong with
Interlachen Great MN course. Can't go wrong with this one
Great courses that tax the software: Pelican Hill, Quarry at Giants Ridge runs at a low frames per second right now, Doral at times can be slow. Quite a few have hiccups, but this will improve as Foresight maximizes the software
As far as Olympic, Congressional, and Merion. These courses don't impress me all that much, but I would say Merion is the best of the 3. I think I have roughly 30 of the courses so if anyone has questions about my preference, feel free to ask.Comment

I guess fsx won't be coming out with pebble beach, or st.andrews? I knew it used to be an option on the fr1 courses, I've seen euro gc2 users playing those courses, shame if foresight couldn't provide them anymore.
What is taxing about fsx software in general? Certainly it's not as demanding as tgc? Did you have any of the same fr1 versions?Comment

I played Quarry today and had the FRAPS going. It was doing very well. I had no problems with FSX today at all. There are some times when the courses will hiccup a little on flybys, but all in all it is getting better! I never really have any problems with The Golf Club and if I do, I just turn the settings down a little and it improves. Both are nice to have and FSX will keep on getting better. I did have several of the same versions in FR1 and the FSX courses are much better. I think that once the software is maximized it will be seamless, like the FR1 was, but with better graphics and options. As far as Sawgrass, Pebble, St. Andrews, I don't see them coming to FSX. They are still relatively a small company and don't want to pay huge licensing fee that those courses charge.Comment

Where is a list of all the available courses? I just watched an fsx video which showed showed some courses like Abu Dabi and Cobble Beach golf links? I'm wondering if Cobble is code for something else. It was an fsx video from Europe...Comment

If you google FSX course catalog, one of the listings it should bring up is Foresight 2016 Course catalog I believe. Cobble Beach I think is a real course in Georgia. Quite a few are redo's of the old courses in red chain. I find the ones that are not duplicates, but done because they had permission, to be generally better.Comment

Seems like anytime I look up information on fsx course reviews or updates here and other forums, most of the posts are with your reviews or updates..seems like a love/hate relationship with fsx?? :-)
I have tgc and pg, but I do use fr1 quite a bit when just practicing so I'm debating replacing it with the basic fsx software...Comment

Col. forbin thanks very much. I know people like to talk about the famous courses but I really like your list. I I've the look of pelican and was going to pick it for sure but what do you mean that it taxes the software? I'm getting a brand new Alienware computer with specs listed above so I'm hoping I can play at full frame rate. Of course I'm not using a 4K projector as there isn't one made that is short throw so I'll be running 1080p. Anyway thanks again!Comment

I preordered it during the 2014 PGA show and waited a good long while for them to put it out. Around the 2015 show, they gave a more firm date on the release and I think it was in March of 2015. The first showing was bare bones and lackluster to say the least. After waiting over a year, I was a little disappointed to say the least. After a couple of months, they put out some fixes and it worked a little better. Come January 2016, I get the news that FSX software will be introduced and this time it is a lot closer to where I wanted it to be. Still room for improvement, but much more playable! I hated waiting 2 years, but I love Foresight Sports as a company. I love the GC2 and their customer support has been nothing but great with me. I just have to learn patience in the simulator software world! I don't think the graphics are as good as TGC, but some of the features are really nice. Each software has their own pros and cons, so I am happy to have both. I would say more so love with the FSX now. If you have any questions about the software in particular, I would be happy to answer them. For the basic software, I would probably not update yet since you have the other two sim options.Comment

No. I very much like it now. If you asked me over a year ago, I would have said it was a beta. I think the future is very bright for FSX.Comment
