Anyone played Schaumburg? I have heard this is Medinah course 3, is this true? Other than La Jolla, are there any other courses that are listed under a different name. Thanks in advance.

Schaumburg is Medinah 3. Very difficult course.....lots of trees. Akron = Firestone. Nine Lakes = Loxahatchee Course (Nicklaus course in Jupiter, FL) Others are named correctly or are fantasy courses.

Thanks Col Forbin (love the name) and to all who have commented. I realize this has been asked already, but given some of the new updates (Olympic and others) I thought it would be worth asking again. I also need 5 courses, one of which will be Schaumburg. I am leaning towards couer d'Alene, cog hill, interlachen, and La Jolla. However, I feel like I am really missing on some of the big names: Marion, oakmont, Olympic, even prairie dunes. Any of these been improved enough to get over any of the others I named?
Separate question: how do you play sand shots. Does the sim treat a sand shot any differently, and does that impact course selection on any bunker heavy courses. Thanks all.Last edited by Chetlemon; 07-05-2016, 09:35 PM.

You will be fine with Cog Hill, Couer d'Alene, Schaumburg, La Jolla & Interlachen. They are definitely some of the better courses offered. If you like them, choices down the road could be Merion, Olympic, Nine Lakes as they have been improved quite a bit.
As far as sand, I don't find that foresight really punishes you too much for being in a bunker. Hopefully, there will be an update at some point, but I play the sand shots the same way as if I was in the rough or fairway. I don't think they have a penalty in FSX yet.........could be wrong though

I'm going to jump in and ask opinions as I narrow down our choices as well... thank you!
I believe 4 of my 5 will be 1) Cour d' Arlene 2) Cog Hill 3) Interlachen 4) Congressional.... then I need another. IF I already have courses that will be to similar or not as good let me know. These were picked from your recommendations.
Remaining choices are Dallas, Pelican, Olympic, & La Jolla... Nine Lakes would have been in there but is currently off FS's list.

Hi Shawk, there is a new Foresight catalog of courses that took off a few and added some more. You can email Foresight to get the current available courses. Nine Lakes is available again on this catalog. If I had to chose 5 it would be Couer D'Alene, Cog Hill, Nine Lakes, Hazeltine and La Jolla. That gives you a good selection of different courses.
Pelican is currently not available. However, Dallas National, Olympic and Interlachen have had significant upgrades and you could easily substitute one for the last two I mentioned. I am just trying to give you some variety in courses. I am not a huge fan of Congressional as it is not the memorable for me.
Hope this helps!

That's awesome Col.... I just printed the current list and see Nine Lakes is back on. I'll likely go with your list then. I'm definitely after a little variety.
I noticed that no one seems to mention the over seas courses much (I seen Royal Troon on the list of courses). Thanks!!

I'm not a huge fan of the links courses available, which are pretty much the ones across the pond. Abu Dhabi and Emirates are very nice. It is very hard to limit it down to 5.

Flint Hills is awesome!!! Problem is I don't believe they have updated it yet and it is currently not available. It has some performance issues, but is an awesome course. Dallas National & Olympic have been updated and revamped a little graphically. Currently, I would say Olympic just beats out Dallas in my opinion. However, if Flint Hills gets updated soon and runs smoothly, I would put the rankings as Flint, Olympic, Dallas. All 3 are great courses and in the top 15 of the 40 or so I have. I can't stress enough how much Olympic and Dallas have improved since they were first released. I really didn't care for either of them until the updates came. Hoping Flint gets great treatment!

If you buy a course, you will get the update for free always. The version I am running is 1.2 I believe. Flint Hills, Doral, La Tempete, and a few others hadn't been updated, but I haven't logged on in a week or so. The 1.7.2 is definitely an update and I can't wait to see it after work. Hopefully, they updated a couple other courses as well.

Do you know if the software used to create the FSX courses is different from what is used to convert FR1 courses? I would assume starting from scratch and creating new FSX courses would yield better graphics than converting an FR1 course to an FSX course. Having said that do you feel, if choosing an FSX courses, one would choose the FSX courses that previously were not FR1 courses? Thanks.

There are a lot of repeats from FR1. I am not certain at all, but I have heard that Foresight is working or was working with Red Chain, which was the creator of those older courses. I do consider ordering courses first that were not on the original FR1. Some examples of newer courses that are looking much better texture wise are Wentworth West, Yishan & Hinsdale. These were not on the original FR1 and significant improvements have been made from when FSX was first released. Some of the repeats such as Couer, Cog Hill, La Jolla, Doral, Olympic, etc. look quite good, but I agree that you can somewhat tell that they resemble the older software layout wise. I look forward to Foresight's next round of courses

Would the guys who have a few of the FSX courses be willing to post some youtube videos of them? I bit the bullet and purchases FSX and will be adding some courses. The videos out there are very lacking in this regard. Foresight has some videos of a flyby on a hole for each course but the quality is sub par so you can't really tell how the course is.

The course flybys on foresightsports.com/courses are pretty much representative of what the courses look like. What the flybys look like are exactly what you get.
