  • Bit the Bullet and Joined the Club...

After looking at used GC2s for nearly a year, I finally bit the bullet and bought a new one.

With the prices that used ones were going for, proceeding through that route made absolutely no sense, as I knew that I wanted FSX as well.

Having come from SkyTrak and then ES16, all I can say is that I'm unbelievably impressed.

The one thing that has not been mentioned in prior comparisons--either on this site or elsewhere--is just how large the GC2's ball read area is.

I'd estimate it at 12" x 18", possibly even larger. Better yet, if you place the ball outside the area, the unit still sees the ball and tells you graphically where you need to move it to get to the read area. Finally, the read area begins about 20" from the unit, so it is not very likely to get hit by a shank.

Contrast this with SkyTrak where the read area is approximately the size on an index card slightly more than a foot from the unit. Or ES16, where the read area is about the size of a poker chip and about 10" from the unit (not to mention that the logo on the ball must be hand placed toward the cameras).

As we say in the police world with regard to guns/armor/night vision and other equipment...

"Buy cheap, buy twice." In my case, it was 3X.

Congrats! Did you get HMT as well?

Not yet. What I spent was a stretch for me. But may do it at some point, depending on the price. Contrary to what others have reported, they were willing to play ball with regard to negotiating the price. Dude was totally straight with me in that summer months are the slowest time for them.

Congrats. The field of view is nice when you're on grass. You can hit quite a few balls before moving it.

Congrats, and welcome to the the club! You're correct about the GC2 being heads above the cheaper options. Some folks think cheaper is better, and others just WANT to believe the cheaper options are as good. There's a reason that Foresight hasn't lowered their prices on the GC2... It's because they aren't losing unit sales as a result of Skytrak. I'd bet their sales have actually increased. Enjoy it Ookie!

Correct. They had a two week lead time when I ordered. Apparently, they recently signed a deal to outfit all of the PGA Tour Superstores. If you've ever been to one, you know that they have at least ten bays each, possibly double that. That said, the sales guy I dealt with was actually willing to move on the price. As you can imagine, summer is the slowest time for them.

BINGO. And indoors, you don't need to move it constantly to avoid mat wear or even to use a fixed tee location through the traditional hole in the mat (vs. Claw Tee, etc)

This is in stark contrast to the ES16. Even if the latter had all clubhead parameters full working and guaranteed to be accurate within 0.1%, not a chance I would take that over GC2 w/o HMT. The ball read area of ES16 is literally the size of a poker chip. And the logo on the ball has to be facing the cameras. Spending 15-20 seconds rolling balls around on the mat--often having to bend over to hand place--gets old fast.

Moreover, the unit sits about a foot down the target line, and the ball sits about 9-10" from the LM. Absolutely asking to be destroyed by a shank.

I know that GC2 is not officially supported by ProTee. If I wanted to pick it up anyway, do you guys recommend going directly through ProTee or via Par2Pro?

The only shortcoming I see with GC2 is the lack of a travel case to transport it to the range in.

Just like guys made their own protective shields for SkyTrak, I may make my own GC2 case.

        Here's the prototype

You can buy it direct. It's only a download.

Congrats, Ookie! As you may remember I was in the same boat as you but actually skipped the middle piece of the puzzle you put together. I can not say it enough I wish I would have sucked it up in the first place and just got the GC2. I know it was a lot of coin and it hurt the pocketbook but it also came without the trial and error nor the frustration. I love mine it is so easy to use and works so well. In the few weeks I have had it has actually improved my ball striking and ability to put spin on the ball in the direction I want. I can't wait to see what an entire winter of working with it will do to my game!

Does anyone know how to get back to the screen size/distance settings that you set during the FSX setup? I rushed and left it at defaults. Want to fix it at some point.

I bought one of the hard cases from monoprice earlier this year. They are fantastic and I'd highly recommend getting one for transporting to the range, etc...

Look in the Windows start menu. It's somewhere in there.

Do u think anyone would but the skytrak over gc2? I bought the skytrak because it was the best thing money can buy, if I had the money then I would've gone for the gc2, although having said that, is serves my purpose , the sims are good fun but I can't see how a gc2 would make it anymore realistic.
