  • What's your go to course when friends come over to play?

I have a couple guys coming over tomorrow night for probably 9 holes and with so many options it's always tough to choose a course to play. What's your go to course to impress the guys playing for the first time?

Usually Augusta or Pebble are high on the list.

Figured those 2 would be listed .. after this weeks tourney I don't wanna play Pebble ever again lol.. Augusta is probably the course everyone will say and any golfer will be familiar with it .. Any hidden gems you can recall?

I play with my son (15), and our go to course is MTHunt's "The Meadows" 9 hole course. We just got our GC2 and TGC at the beginning of the year, and we're definitely not experts, so we use this course to see if we are improving. It's a short course, and pretty forgiving. When we started I was in the high 40's, and my son in the mid 50's. Now I'm pretty consistently in the high 30's/low 40's, and he's in the mid 40's!

I've been playing this with my wife the last week or so. Nice little easy course for beginners, I agree. I'm looking for something these guys may know

Most people are familiar with TPC Sawgrass as well. Should check to see if you have any local courses on there, thats what I play with friends and will definately impress them.

There's some great courses - but you have to know a member!

MTHunts Mississagua is a great track. I play the long version with friends who can actually play, I play the short course with my wife. A good layout and good showcase for sim golf.

WHeels, I doubt anyone will recreate Triggs on here, I don't think the place has ever closed so no need to sim it!!!

Haha, you local to me? I drove by there last week on a 50 degree day and there were people playing.. I wanted to play so bad.. I'm literally 5 minutes around the corner from there... I have been tinkering with the course designer and Triggs may be getting done if I can ever figure out how to do correct elevations.. I used google earth and peek through to trace the 1st, 2nd, and 9th holes and it was spot on but without the elevations there's no point in making it..

Has anyone played Torrey Pines south? Looking through the real course list and then looking at pics online of the real course, it looks very picturesque IRL. Did they nail it in the recreation?

Yeah that's right lol....now I remember hitting a cliff off the tee both rounds on one of the back nine courses..... Guess it wasn't too memorable a course

I second! Lefty 71, we must be neighbors. I have had the privilege of playing the south course numerous times. What a great layout! You hit every club in the bag. The Sims versions are great! It was always my go to on FR1 and now on TGC. The sim version is a lot more forgiving than the RL course, but it's still great. It's a combination of a shot maker's course and a long course. It's a lot tighter IRL than on sim. I swear it seems like the fairway on 9 is like three yards wide IRL. Those tall oaks along the fairway damn near touch over the fairway... Or so it seems.

16 is a great hole! Of course, they're all great holes. It took me a couple of rounds to get the greens. I shot 71 my last round, and that was with a double on 2. My goal is to break 70. I will never understand how Tiger shot 61! Crazy!!!

I can't believe how many people play the meadows. Maybe I'll do a meadows desert course. Or meadows links. Lol

for a 9 hole match with your buds you got to do Magnolia National back nine. (Augusta).

I'd gladly play other versions of the Meadows with my wife. There such a lack of shorter courses for new players and women who can't hit very far, it's unreasonable and not fun for them to play the course that we enjoy the most like Pebble Or Augusta..
I'm terrible with the designer right now as I just got into it but I'm going to try to make a few myself for my wife and I to play when she comes out with me.. and it's actually fun for me too making a couple birdies for once lol

Your meadows course is awesome! Very fair, especially for high handicappers. It has helped me tremendously in learning the ins and outs of playing TGC. I need to look up more of your stuff.....

Weren't they missing a pond on 18? Kind of a big thing to miss.

Yes. Not good, as far as that hole goes. He probably got caught with the "water only shows up at elevation 0 or less" TGC course designer rule. Terrible rule.

Ya Goat. You need to build around a water table in TGC1. There's tricks to get around it depending on the hole but an artificially filled pond at a high elevation is tough.

No kidding, don't know why they didn't go with the protee version. I labored through both rounds of that tourney. When I hit a good 3 wood 245 off the tee and I still have 225 in on a par 4, that's way too long for me!

My guess is a third are low cap and long enough, a third are medium and can almost handle it and a third can't. That's how we determine which course. If every course was 6400 yards we'd only be catering to a third.

Most of my friends would fall into the bottom third so I would play the shorter version if inviting them over.

Well I decided that Powderfinger was good for them to try out and boy it was painful I hardly ever drink and I was 5 deep by the end....

            146!

I always set gimmies to on green when my buddies come over, especially for those that haven't been on my sim before. Putting is brutal for people that don't play on a simulator to try and figure out. Makes it much more enjoyable for them.

Putting was the only thing these guys were remotely decent at. Can I turn everything else to gimmie? Lol what a long round, I was sitting like 6 shots between them before I hit my second, just stiffening up. And of course I was getting " I don't usually hit it like this IRL".. Next time I told them we will play the world tour par 3 course...
