My Sim is coming this week. Wondering which balls are best for Sim use. Have read about not wanting excessive spinning balls due to screen wear and balls not lasting long. Are new range balls an option for range sessions, they do not tear easy and have low spin. I normally play Bridgestone or Prov1 on course and would use them when playing a Sim round.

I am new to the sim world as well, but had a modest setup for 2 years.. basically a thin white bedsheet with a heavy soundproofing blanket hanging behind it...similar to a moving blanket. That lasted 2 years until the sheet tore. Ihave upgraded to a more professional (and expensive setup) Im assuming even an entry level impact screen would hold up significantly longer. Btw whats the point of practicing in the sim with balls you don't play on the course. I want the same feel and workability as im used to with my gamer ball. I certainly have noticed on my skytrak different numbers with different balls...prov vs vice pro soft vs 2 piece etc. I will say the only downfall of high spin balls I have noticed is that wedge shots don't just fall off my screen with high spin models, they ride up the screen and hit the ceiling. My screen is 10 wide by 8 high and I hit from around 8-10 from screen. im not comfortable hitting full with anything above 56 degree with certain balls. Again, I have limited experience..im sure others may be more informed

I use the ball I use on the course (mostly srixon zstar). I definitely recommend this. You just need to replace them after they get a bit scuffed. I do use wedges that are a year or 2 old - I can still get over 10,000 RPMs spin, but they scuff the ball less. I replace wedges every year or 2 so the previous models just stay in the sim room.

Sometimes if I’m practicing, I’ll use a Kirkland 3-pc performance ball because it spins more off mid irons and exaggerates my draw even more than TGC already does so I if I can get it to draw just 5 yards with a 9-iron, it will be essentially straight to a 1 yard draw on the course.

Choosing a golf ball requires that you also consider what kind of "sim" you are using.

If the sim actually reads the spin and incorporates it into it's results, then sure, take the ball's spin characteristics into account.

My sim, ProTee, doesn't really read spin (and I don't play well enough that more or less spin would be important), so spin is not as important to me as durability and feel.

In any case, I would suggest that whatever ball you settle on, that you don't use your game balls with your sim. Sure, they can be the same brand, type, etc. but impact screens pick up every little bit of dirt and crud so stick to using balls exclusively on the sim.

I have found Bridgestone e6 and e7 to be very durable. Hardly ever scuff.

Dont use the chromesoft balls, they will crack around 1000 hits. Almost ripped my screen.

Depends on what launch monitor you have. If you have a GC2 then it really doesn't matter. If you have something like a Skytrac then balls with a built in alignment mark like a Prov1 are best.

If you want to minimize ball cracking then be sure to vary the alignment when hitting when possible to avoid whacking the ball in the same spot all the time. Do not put any marks on the ball with things like a magic marker as this will transfer to your screen. The same reasoning applies to using clean clubs to avoid transferring crap to the ball and then to the screen.
