What do you guys do to help practice 100 and in? I'm having a hard time visualizing 10-20-30 yards etc. I'm a pretty new though so maybe I just need to mark off actual distances Ina chipping area to help me visualize it. I'm practicing on a tablet and not a full projector (yet).

It just takes time and practice on the sim to feel what the distances are. You will quickly get to a point where you don't need to 'see' the distance, you need to know the number. Then you'll be the guy on the course with a rangefinder shooting 30 yards... -
And like Mike said you’ll be the guy with the rangefinder @ 30-40 yards but, you will also be the guy sticking it tight!Comment

I think the point that's missing here is, you are using a tablet - no projector! That's a whole lot of make believe.
When you have a projected image you have a much better feel for what's going on, distance wise. Not that it's ideal of course, but has to be better than a tablet!

Yeah, You are absolutely right that becoming an expert takes time. But it's a natural fact that practice makes a man perfect. But according to my experience nowadays the rangefinder for beginners helps a lot to newbies. As compared to the previous times now a new player makes their shoot perfect in a short period of time..Comment

I use the simulator to practice partial wedge shots to dial in distances but I eyeball the distances on course if there's yardage markers.Comment

For me, that is one of the hardest things to practice anywhere. Couldn't imagine doing it without at least a full projector screen. Otherwise its a mechanical/analytical exercise of learning swing keys to control. That can be a good strategy and I've done that to help my putting distances (read #, execute shot based on stance, backswing, etc. vs. look-feel based).Comment

Exactly what I have learned myself on my indoor TM4 simulator setup. I know pretty much exactly where my hands need to be for pitch shots of 30, 40,50 and 60 yards. This is after having hit hundreds of those shots into my screen and then watching the video replay to see where my hands actually were when I hit the shots at the distances I was trying to accomplish. I cannot imagine doing it without the feedback of the TM and the cameras. Even better when the balls roll back to your feet!Comment

How far is your hitting area from your net? Pace it off and use this as a baseline. Then you can start to figure out how high up the net you need to hit the ball to carry it certain distances on your sim. It really isn't much different from picking a landing spot on a green and deciding if that landing spot is with a low, medium, or high trajectory. Give it some time and your short game will improve both on the sim and out on the course.Comment
