  • Should Have, Could Have, Would Have, Backordered Blues...

Anyone else regret not buying a SkyTrack last November/Dec when they were "giving" them away for $1700 new?

Seems like every place is a 12-14 week lead time for either the Mevo+ or Sky Track and used ones are $2500+.

I was curious what other's thoughts were on whether it made sense to order a SkyTrack now or if there was some other magical LM I should look at that is not back ordered but doesn't cost $5K+.

    Thanks for any advice!

I was never going to buy a skytrak. i used one a few times and did not care for it. The mevo + is worth a try but I am impatient and cannot wait 14 weeks +. all other options are 5k up but you get what you pay for

I was lucky. I bought a Skytrak right when Covid started shutting things down here in the U.S. and it was like the very next week that the orders started getting all backlogged. I think I probably got one of the last ones in stock. I received mine in 4 days and couldn't be happier. I can't get over how good TGC 2019 is either. So glad that I pulled the trigger because I was initially planning on waiting a little bit more. Kind of an impulse purchase but the best impulse purchase I've ever made lol.

I say just go ahead and place an order for something. The wait time will give you plenty of time to get your space set up and ready to go so that the day your unit arrives you'll be ready to start hitting away. Besides, 3 months will go by fast. And I suspect the wait times will probably go down as it seems like the wheels are starting to turn more now than they were a couple months ago. Is Skytrak all sold out of their used units as well?

Also, once you get your setup ready to go you can buy the steam version of TGC 2019 for less than 10 bucks. Something fun to do to pass the time until the launch monitor arrives.

Thanks for the tip! I'll look in to that because I have everything else ready to go.

And you know that as soon as you get one they'll announce the Skytrak 2 :-)

I was in your shoes, I missed the boat (came to it late when I had the idea once COVID hit) and ended up paying way over retail for a Skytrak. In the end after seeing the cost of Skytrak close to 2700-3000, it made more sense to find a GC2 and have not been disappointed at all! The software is a hidden cost, I have FSX2020 and TGC but honestly, I am using FSX2020 way more than TGC, especially if improvement is your focus. If you can afford it, I'd look for a used GC2, they can be had as low as $4000 from what I have seen on eBay and here and seem to hold value pretty well, even with the GCQ out, the cost difference between the two is so enormous. I wouldn't be so sure a Skytrak holds much value if a Skytrak 2 comes out at similar price point of the original.

I lucked out and got one early into the Illinois shutdown and could not be happier. I also couldn't believe that I sold my used optishot for almost what I paid for it new. Skytrak been on the radar for a couple years. With having a baby and working a ton it's getting increasingly harder to find 4-5 hours of free time to play real golf. I do however get free for 45 min- 90 min pretty often. This helped me justify the expense and I haven't looked back. At the time, I didn't know the other costs I'd get myself into with TGC2019, gaming laptop, better projector, etc... But I love the set up it's become and it absolutely has helped to keep my swing more consistent instead of having weeks at a time go by without touching a club.

This describes my exact experience. Had optishot with a skytrak on my radar for a while. Actually made money off the sale of my optishot (bought it used and sold it for more than I paid for it). Covid and baby #2 in April pushed me over the edge to pull the trigger on skytrak, TGC2019 and everything else (PC, projector, etc.) I've played literally 2 outdoor rounds since March and I honestly can't say that I miss it all that much. I have my Saturdays back now and I play almost every night in the garage after the kids are in bed. Best money I've ever spent. I sort of justified the cost by figuring all the money I normally would have spent on outdoor golf just goes into the sim now. Plus I love playing tournament golf and generally play 5 or 6 tournaments a year outdoors and now I can play tournaments every week indoors. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Skytrak only impressed me when it was the sole simulation-capable LM below $4000. The no-reads, delay and $100/yr fee weren't deal-breakers, but I knew they'd bug me. I had the opportunity just before December to buy one for 1500 CDN from my pro, but they hadn't fixed the driver ball speed issue yet so I held off. In hindsight I could have made a bunch of money even if I wasn't using it, but I don't think anybody could have predicted people being able to get what they're going for these days. I certainly wouldn't have paid full price for a new unit, let alone the inflated ones we're seeing.

I'm using other forum users as stalking horses to see if the Mevo+ is sufficient after their honeymoons end. Otherwise I'll just go with a Uneekor or GC2 instead. I still manage to get to the course enough with my newborn and 13m.o. even though I'm the care provider while my wife works, so no rush.

3on3putt how do you keep the noise down from golfing in the garage at night?

LOL... I just did it again! Waited too long on a GC2 that was available locally and it was sold right before I contacted the guy to check it out. Oh well, my time will come. In the meantime I'll just keep reading stories about how much fun you're all having...

Thats a great deal, IMO! I picked up about that same bundle second hand from a user here but didn't get the protective case nor the stuff registered in my name. Weird that they say CPO GC2 is out of stock but this one isn't, maybe they are trying to prioritize this bundle.

Keep the door that leads from the house into the garage closed and have a good amount of padding and blankets behind the impact screen. There's really only so much you can do though. Fortunately both the kids' bedrooms are upstairs and on the opposite side of the house from the garage. My wife says she hears it plenty from the living room (on the same floor as the garage) but says it's not nearly as loud when she's upstairs. And we've never had an issue with the kids waking up from it (at least that we're aware of).

Can you describe the hidden costs of a GC2 please? I love the one at my club but need this kind of info.

The hidden cost that I have found was the that without FSX and the GC2 there wasn't much game improvement features that you could use like there was with Skytrack (still costs more, but 100-200 a year is a lot less than 3000). The other hidden cost was the transfer fees if you want any support for FSX or GC2 from foresight. If you are not the original owner, you have to pay $500 or buy $500 worth of stuff from them to transfer ownership to your name. That is kind of BS, IMO.

There were no hidden costs with the special as it can with fsx
