  • Golf Simulator Buying Experience-Custom Design Golf

    Hey guys

I'm a long time reader of the forum and would like to point out my experience with a dealer that sold me all my equipment for the ProTee Golf Simulator. I normally would not do this but it deserves to be said. Now this is just my experience so maybe it could have been a one time thing for this company.

I bought the following items from Custom Design Golf-
    1. Protee Base Sensor System with Putting Sensor 2 cameras etc. $5,995
    2. Video Screen $699
    3. Fixed Net Kit $250
    4. HD Projector $750
    5. HDMI Projector Cable included
    6. Ceiling Projector Mount $75
    7. Desktop PC with all Protee software loaded $1,200
    8. Brush Mat upgrade $300

When I received all these items I was missing the following- Clear protective plate(which I will mention later), HDMI Cord, and all the Protee Software which was not installed on computer as promised and payed for by me.

We did end up getting everything setup in terms of Protee, computer, cameras but with many headaches. I will run through all the things wrong with the items we bought from this company and the conclusions on there quality, customer service, etc
    1. Protee Base Sensor System- No problems. Although one of the light fixtures was damaged. We swapped it out with fixtures from Home Depot.
    2. Video Screen- Started showing wear and tear within a month of use. We use only new golf balls although my swing speed is about 110 mph so I guess that is well above average. Within 6 months the entire screen had holes in the middle. Horrible quality.
    3. Fixed Net Kit- This was fine. No problems. Probably not worth the money, but it works well.
4 HD Projector- This is where things start to go way down hill. We attempted to mount the projector. We could not get anything even close to a full screen picture. I called the projector company and they informed me that I got the wrong projector for the room/screen size. There would be no way it could work without a shadow being cast across the screen. I informed Custom Design Golf of this and was met with shall we say just a little hostility. He sent me a diagram back showing that his projector would work with the room. You only had to do three things. One- Move the projector to the very back of the room. Two- Be shorter then 6 feet tall so a shadow doesnt get cast on the screen. Three- Move the hitting area back to 12'6" which is much longer then Protee recommends. He would not admit that he was wrong and then did not take projector back. Conclusion I bought a projector from Par2Pro(they are the best). Custom Design Golf did offer to give me $300 for projector.
    5. HDMI Projector Cable- Never received this. He offered to send me one, I didnt take it.
    6. Ceiling Projector Mount- Works fine.
    7. Desktop PC with all Protee software and drivers loaded- The good news is that the PC did arrive the bad news is that what I paid for he never delivered. The only reason I got the computer from Custom Design Golf is because I didnt want any hassle of installing anything with the Protee. Nothing came installed. When I told them about this he just said its not that difficult. The point is that I paid for it and didnt receive what I paid for. Oh yeah, also the computer within a week was continually blue screening. I have now replaced the computer with one I bought at Best Buy and have never had the issue again.
    8. Brush Mat Upgrade with clear protective plate- This one still confuses me to this day. I called him up and told him that I never received this item. He told me that it wasnt meant to be on the invoice it was for another customer. I replied that I was charged $300 for this and wanted a credit back. This is when his story started to change. He told me that he charges an additional $300 for the fiber built brush mat. I told him that in the invoice that it says the following- FiberBuilt Brush Mat included with Protee Base Pack. He replied that he doesnt care what Protee charges but he adds additional $300. What I can make from this ordeal is that the charges an additional $300 for something you dont receive. Did offer to send this plate. Which I didnt need.

Sorry about the long and rambling message. Just thought others would want to know my experience with Custom Design Golf. Could of been a one time thing but the customer service and product delivered were severely lacking.

Pretty crappy. You spend the extra money to avoid some of the headaches that comes with a DIY setup and you still end up screwed. If you paid by CC, any chance you can dispute the $300 charge and use the invoice as backup. More so as principle at this point.

that stinks, Pro tee is a great company and I am glad I went directly through them with my purchase and not some middle person marking things up, I am sure Pro tee is monitoring this thread and might take exception to what happened here and back hand custom design golf over it, its not protee's fault at all on this its that you have to be careful who vendors are who are representing a product and customer service is one of protee's strong points.

Sorry to hear about your pain....but glad you are putting the word out. I get the sense that you are the type of guy who is willing/able to pay for convenience and wanted a turnkey solution. You were promised and paid for it...but didn't get it. The only consolation I can offer is that I am sure that although you were not interested in getting into the details and headaches of installing, you are probably more educated about your system that you would have been. In the long run, this might actually improve your satisfaction with your system.

PS, not sure what PC setup you got, but I can tell you that a high end system with a 1070 or higher graphics card will make TGC scream and run flawlessly....this has greatly improved my satisfaction with my system.

That really does suck, don't get some companies and how they don't just make it right for the customers. Protee themselves are the epitome of knowing to make it right for their customers and why they have such high, well deserved praise.

One big consolation in all this is that you did tell this story and suggest you do so a few other places elsewhere as well. I know I wouldn't do business with them after reading this and I'm sure others wouldn't as well. The money they will lose by just not helping you and making it right will end up being much more than it would have cost to just fix everything for you.

Glad you got everything up and running well since leaving that crap
