  • Room width needed to hit from center of room?

Just wondering what minimum room width is needed to hit from the center of the room. To cover most people that would play, say for a 6 ft tall person.

    thanks!

i would say 12 feet wide would be the min.

yep, about 12 ft wide and 14 feet would be min I believe. I have 14 feet wide and 16 feet long and seem to work well. Of course, wish I more room for chairs and a table behind the hitting mat. Perhaps someday I can build an addition.

Wow, so only need 6 foot of space to the side wall to swing a driver and hit from the center of the room/screen with no offset? Seems a little short to me, but ok! Thanks!

Thanks Aja for the info and link. So u have about 7ft 3 in to the wall. How tall are you?

I went by our house currwntly undwr construction, but took some some swings in the basement where the sim would be set up. I'm only 5ft 5in, so plenty of room for mw. My wife is 5ft 7 in and looks like there is still r about a foot left from the driver clubbed to the wall in her follow thru, but wasn't sure how itd be for a taller person like 6ft or taller. My space will be about 15 ft 7 in wide after drywall. But I plan to put up carpet tiles too.

Hi! I'm 6'4" You will be fine with the width that is available to you.

You'd be in tough with 6 feet from the wall to ball. Your best bet is to try it. Put a ball 6 feet from the wall and hit it. I can't with driver.

What if your screen/enclosure is 10' wide and 5' deep side netting, and you hit from ~10' from the screen. The ball is centered on the screen and the golfer offset to the left (for right handed player). The player has room to swing because they stand well outside the netting, so club does not hit netting on follow through. Ball leaves club and hits in center of screen on a straight shot.

Unless I am missing something, the only reason one would need 12'+ screen width for no offset is if there is a wall or something else behind the golfer that impedes the swing. If so, one has no choice but to slide over to the right...causing the ball location to be offset in relation to center of screen.

My comment may not help much when looking at minimum room sizes as OP asked anout, although it would seem that if someone had 12' in room width, and went with a 10' wide screen, they could put the screen all the way to the right side of the room, and get away with having the ball centered on the 10' screen, and standing closed to the wall behind you. You loose screen width but gain center contact and no need for offset.

If the op is talking about hitting into a 12 wide enclosure from more than 12 width, no problem. If we have walls the length of the room 12 wide, I can't see it for more than a 3 or 5 wood. If the op can swing, go for it. I designed my room from the footing up. I went with 16' width. To determine if it was enough, I went to a local sim centre and hit balls 7 feet from wall to ball. It felt way to small.

I posted this in another thread but My sim room is only 8ft wide. SkyTrak is against the wall and I'm able to swing driver (I'm 5'10"). If I get wild with a swing I sometimes hit the wall (behind me)on my follow through. But I put some padding up to soften that blow when it occurs. Shanks and pushes will pinball off of a softened wall but then into the net. Irons I can then move the ball 2-3 feet off the wall.

Not it ideal by any means but I'm able to make it work.

I'll have about 7ft 8.5 inches from ball in center of room to the side wall. Definitely enough room for me, but Hopefully will be fine for my taller friends.

if protee recommends a 14 ft enclosure, then I'm hoping anything bigger accommodates taller players...

Rich it's at least 14 ft bro. The wider the better.. but 14 ft is the min. Should be 14 ft wide min by 20 ft long min.

Ok. Cool. Yeah, my area will be 15ft 7in wide x 26 ft deep x 10 ft high (minus flooring).

                thanks everyone!

I'm in the process of ordering everything and building my setup. I ordered a mevo+ because I need lefty/righty (I'm a lefty). I have a 12 foot wide room and can hit 3-wood if I offset about four inches to the left. My question is: will I still receive accurate readings from the mevo+ being 4-6" left of center?
