Room width needed to hit from center of room?

To hit from both sides, I'd say 16 foot minimum room width. Maybe 15 if you want to push it. It is easy to figure out. Grab a ball, a driver, and a tape measure. Make slow practice swings with your back to the wall and measure where it works. I'd exaggerate the follow through a bit to allow for how others may swing.

15 ft works well if you hang on to your club. If you let one hand off you may hit the wall.

I'll have 15ft 7 in in width. I'm just gonna go with it for now. I can Cut out and move the hitting strip in the future if I need to, although that will be a pita.

Good advise godfather.. yea 15.7 ft is plenty good. Be aware that if you get a gc2... if your playing partner is lefty and your a righty, your gonna need 2 gc2's for each side, otherwise your gonna have to flip the gc2 from side to side. That's one nice thing about the protee set up. You just put the sensor mat in the center and hit from both sides. The launch camera can go on either side. And it's the same with the putting sensor as well with protee. If you do decide on the protee, get the putting sensor that goes with it. Makes the experience better. However the protee is more labor intensive to set up. You need a sub floor and the cameras can be tricky to set up.. gc2 however, easiest set up in the world.. but you would need 2 of them if your gonna hit from both sides of the plate.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I only have like 2 left handed friends, 1 moved to Florida and 1 doesn't golf, so lefty rights things isn't an issue for me right now. So gc2 it is. Didn't really want to build a subfloor anyway

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.
In my planning I am assuming a minumum of 8ft 10ins from ball to wall behind my back - physically measured with slow motion swings.
That's about 5ft 7 inches from the line of the toes and about 3ft 2 inches from toes to ball.
I am only 5ft 9 inches tall so more is required for taller people.
That distance gives some comfort IF you hold on to the club. Letting go increases the requirement a lot.

That would all mean a room width of 17ft 8 inches to comfortably hit from the centre of the room.
That seeems more than mentioned abov - maybe i got my measurements off... don;t know.

For my plan, I don;t have that much width so will be hitting off centre.
Personally I don't mind as I much prefer to be STANDING in line with the centre of the screen, not having the ball in the centre.

My Wedge would hit the wall at that distance.
I am not talking about swinging back down the line, rather the space behind your back (which is what I think the thread question was).
If there was only 6.5ft from ball to wall behind me, given I stand 3ft plus from the ball, that would only leave less than 3 and half ft behind me.

If that’s not wide enough go what is wide enough. My room is 16.5 feet wide but I can swing in 7 feet and I’m 6’1”. Here’s a manufacturer recommending 6.5/13 feet.

I guess I must be exaggerating the arm extension and turn when I am doing slow motion swings.
I am embarkeing on my build and my space is what it is - can;t be any bigger... so I might be less offset than I think I will be.

My recommendation is to get some cheap cardboard box and stack them up behind you in the garage and keep moving back until you hit the box. That a wall outside with a club you don't care about.

Bumping thread. My room is 10.5 wide and I can EASILY swing a driver as hard as I can with no problems. Im barely off center as well. Im 5'10'' and have a hooky flat swing too.

I’m 14’ wide and I’m offset by 12”. I’m 6.1’ though. Some of the guys I’ve had over are just too close to the post that is behind them. A lefty can still hit on the other side but it depends on the swing.

To accommodate guests, you can’t go less than 14ft wide to hit dead center. IMO 15 is even a little tight.
