is your eva mats 1/2 inch or 3/4. If 1/2 inch, what gel pad are you buying that fits that size.

I used 1/2" EVA foam mats, and this was the gel pad: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LARGE-MOTOR...b9Sw:rk:1:pf:0
The gel pad is 3/8" thick, and I used a 1/8" piece of fiber board as a spacer below the gel pad. In hindsight, I would have used a 5/8" gel pad and skipped the spacer. I would have preferred the gel pad to be just proud of the foam mats.

How is the screen holding up tensioned like that without any give?

It has been holding up great, there is virtually no visible wear on the screen.

Everytime this post gets put back on top of the forum posts, I read it and still believe it should be mandatory reading for anyone beginning their build....one of the best write-ups on the board....

I had a member asking me about my hitting area, so I figured I would update the thread on how I have it set-up.

So, the StarPro turf that was covering my hitting area (earlier in the thread) eventually wore out after about a year, and I needed to replace that portion. I cut out an area of the turf about 12” wide by 24” long and also cut-out an equal size portion of the EVA exercise mat:

Then, I glued (using contact cement) a piece of Lexan (8” wide x 25.5” long x 1/8” thick) to the bottom of the EVA exercise mat:

And set the gel pad in the center of the EVA exercise mat:

Then, a new piece of StarPro turn was glued to the exercise mat cut-out using contact cement:

Then, that entire insert is place back in the hitting area:

The Lexan is used as a backer to hold the insert down. I just bow the insert as I place it in, so that each end of the backer slides under the existing turf and EVA exercise mat. You can see how the 5/8” gel pad that I switched to causes the hitting area to be just proud of the surrounding turf. This seems to work out well:

I have been doing this routine about every 6 months now. When I notice the hitting area insert turf wearing out, I peel it off and glue on a new piece.

That's great bbjr - how are you finding the gel on your wrists/elbows? There are some that report it is too 'grabby' and more likely to cause issues with joints....

Maybe I am just fortunate to not suffer much in the way of joint issues, but I don’t have any problems using the gel. I also have an insert of the Quattro mat and also a CCE type of mat that I will sometimes rotate in, and neither one has caused any type of issues with me.
