  • Ottawa Canada Sim Room in Basement

Hello everyone. First off let me just say that I think this is a terrific site.
I am new to this forum but have been visiting on and off to get some ideas from the rest of you for this simulation room project.
Having gathered enough information to feel comfortable enough to start,
I thought I would share my progress with you guys and gals.
This was a 10 week project.
    The plan.
    Re purpose my basement workshop (30' x 18' x 8' 8")
    into a golf simulation room (28' x 17' x 10' 4") by going up 6" and down 12".
Here is how it turned out...

That is absolutely amazing. How high were the ceilings to start? What is the total height now after the flooring and everything else is finished?

I've been trying to figure out the best way to build my sim and underpinning was an option, although I'd have to go down 1.5-2' to get the height I need (~8' basement).

Really wishing that I knew about this when I built the house 10 years ago but I just first started playing golf at that point so I had no idea.

That really looks great. Nice job!

Me ceiling was originally 8'8" from the slab to the bottom of the trusses.
I excavated down 18" to net 12". (2" Styrofoam insulation added and then replace the 4" slab). We added 1000 lbs of rebar to strengthen everything and remained 18" away from the footings. Because I had 14" open truss joists in the ceiling we could replace a section of the ceiling with 2" x 8" joists hung from doubled 2" x 14" LSL beams. This gave me another 6" of ceiling height finished. Total finished ceiling height after 1 1/4" hitting mat and 1/2" ceiling drywall is 10' 2". There is lots of room to swing a driver. I have 12" to spare.

Really great setup. What is below the screen to stop any "worm burners"? Do you have some type of ramp or something setup?

I have a net strung across the width of the room at about the 1' level. I had a few ricochets that tried to take out the boys so it was off to the local fastener store to build some carrier grade arresting hardware. I'll post some pics.

Yeah I was wondering what was going to stop the ricochet. Room looks amazing though.
