  • How many people use padding behind their screen?

I just installed my Carl’s Place preferred 11’x9’ screen and it looks great! I was planning to hang some old moving blankets behind it. However, the tension feels really good. It looks great too. I know it’s made to not need a blanket behind it.

I see a lot of post of people using blankets, mattresses, padding, etc. Is it necessary? How many people use just the screen? Just curious.

Using padding/blankets behind your net give you the possibility to increase a little your tension of impact screen (will look better after a shot). Its also increase the durability of the impact screen by reducing the "hole" of each shot.

I use 3 inch memory foam plus netting. I'm like 7 inches screen to wall.

Not padding, but I use a net behind my screen. Glad I did, I had a high spin wedge shot cut through the last screen I had.

Concur with htdumps I tried moving blankets and they ripped to sheds. I have foam on my walls now and about 10 inches to the wall. Also, I strung up a section of old carpet that was in the sim before. I love that feel now. The screen doesnt bounce alot and it deaden the balls quickly.

You can use moving blankets for wedge killers though. The shot that bounces high off the screen and onto the ceiling.

Built 2x4 frame. Free hung mattress overlay foam from top, quilt, then bright white sheet and then white canvas. Staple to frame with some room to allow impact without bounce. Then drywall framed the sides. Still in process.

Moving into the end of my first year with a sim setup in my garage and after dealing with some minor bounce back from shots on a whim I just hung an old sleeping bag behind my screen and can say it definitely makes a difference. Unsure how I’m going to move forward with a final solution but initial results are positive

I hung two Harbor Freight moving blanks behind the screen and two nets. Great sound reduction and no bounce back.
The blankets held up ok at high levels but down low levels where the driver hit . . . completely shredded in just one week.
Now looking for a used cheap memory foam mattress top.

Memory Foam mattress deffo the way to go. I was using my screen before i had it and the bounce back was quite severe. I got the biggest mattress i could and put it inside a quilt cover then hung it behind where i mainly impact the screen and it deadens the ball 99% more than before also the sound is hugely reduced.

What kind of screen do you have Oz? Also, how loosely is the bottom secured? Hang the quilt cover on the same supports as the screen or leave a gap? Thanks -

i have a cheapo screen, not really a premier one but cant remember the name of it. i have made my own frame to hang the screen from by using 26mm metal piping that i got from a metal store online. I over ordered and ended up with a 3M long tube i didnt need, so i bungied it to the bottom of the screen and it hangs 2 inches from the floor. I hang the mattress from the same pole i have the screen on. At the start i could see the rectangular mattress behind the screen due to bleed through so i went out and bought a blackout curtain the same size as the screen. So.....to sum up, i have at the back the mattress hanging from the pole then in front of that i have a standard curtain blackout screen that i got from a local material shop, then i have the screen in the front. hope that helps.

I have 2 moving blankets behind the screen, blackout curtains behind the blankets all wrapped around the cage and 2 inch foam insulation (pink board like) laying against the wall behind that so nothing gets through lol
