  • First time build

Hi everyone. Im looking to build a simulator in my home for the first time. I am situated in Asia but unfortunately not in a country like Korea where there is easy access to simulators or even to pretty standard building materials. So i will order and ship most items to its important for me to get it right. Sorry for some basic questions to start.

I have a pretty big room allocated for this but im struggling to work out the idea setup which also allows for viewing and entertaining areas. My main concern is the 10' from the screen hitting distance and how much more room is needed behind for safety. The room is 19' by 22'7" by 11' so i hope there is plenty of room. One of the walls (the left one in pics below) is joined with a neighbor so i will add more soundproofing there. Access is from the door on the top right of the pic.

Attached is how i see 2 pics how i see potential layout; one in a corner setup and one in the middle of the room. The blue is the projector. I presumed a pretty big screen of around 16'x10' and i suppose i could go smaller. I believe the first setup (screen in the middle) is the nicest aesthetically but im worried about noise hitting at the wall joined with the neighbour and also entertaining space around it. From the ball position to the wall is 8' and id like a sofa etc in there. Is it enough and safe with back swing?

Sorry for the poor layout pics. If anyone knows a good easy app for layout designs let me know. Any feedback appreciated

is it mandatory for both doors to be fully functional? I ask because if you could keep the door in the northeast corner of the second drawing closed, then you could center the screen on that wall and not be hitting the neighbor's wall and not have to offset

Thanks for the reply. Yes unfortunately as one is the room entrance and one is to a bathroom.

I built my sim in a 13.5’ x 19’ space. I can tell you that 19’ is enough room for a sofa but it’s tight. That’s with a13’ wide screen. A 16’ wide screen may require you to put your projector further back and will push your impact area back and likely won’t leave you room for a sofa.

Remove hinged door and install sliding door

MJH you are right and i might just take out the door completely.
Tron: Thanks and i think you are right. Seems like the corner setup is the best. I might get a quote to move the other door which will allow me to go central on the top wall. Lets see.

Quick basic followup question. Do you size the screen first and then the projector position and then find the projector? If i want to hit 10' from the screen and the ceiling height is around 11' how far behind me can the projector go without causing shadow issues? Im not that tall but i presume friends who use this might get up to 6'2 height

Depends on finish size of screen and image size you need to fill it. A very good flexible projector and full hd is the pannasonic ptvz580. closely ceiling mounted and above you up to 5m away from screen should be ok. I would not place a projector between the player and screen better over or behind player
