Hitting position from Impact Screen Question

OK, so we are getting close. Just a couple more details before I pull the trigger. Thanks to everyone who has pitched in so far. I will be installing the system in the garage with 10-foot ceilings. Considering several different options for screens and enclosures but I am wondering about ideal hitting distance from the screen. Current Screen thought is approx. 12 feet x 9 feet to give an idea but I am looking at a 15 foot option as well. I have apporx 24 feet from screen (one foot off the wall) to back of Sim area to play with.

Based on the mat I would like to use (fiberbuilt combo mat), I am narrowing the hitting distance down to two choices, 9-10 feet and 13-14 feet back (though I suppose I can adjust this if/as required). Thoughts or recommendations needed! In both cases my planned projector installation will be ahead of the hitting area at approximately 8 feet from the screen. I realize this has been asked and answered several times and

I am heavily leaning towards 9-10 feet (as seems to be the consencus) but the larger mat sure looks great. I guess I am trying to figure out if folks are using that distance due to space concerns or for other reasons.

With an 8X14 screen is 10 feet too far away? I am wondering if I need to be closer but the other combo mat option puts you 7-8 feet back which feels too close to the screen for me. Thoughts?

I have 8.5 feet for a 9x12 screen. In another setup, I have 8 feet for an 8x13 screen. The further away you are from the screen, the more you’ll have to worry about flop shots and sh&#ked shots.

I'm only 7 feet away from my screen and have no issues. And I'm 6'2" with long gangly arms.

Same. I like being close so don’t have to worry about shanks missing screen. I would also rather have the extra room behind to accommodate seating.

With a 10 foot ceiling, I would prefer the 9-10 foot option. I would not want to deal with my wedge shots hitting the ceiling from the longer distance.

Thanks - yes I agree. I decided on (and pulled the trigger on) a Fiberbuilt 12 x 10 Combo Mat with Center hitting Station. Essentially provides a 4 x 4.5 Stance areas (x2) and a 4 X 1 foot center hitting area (over all 4 x 10 hitting area). Forward of this is 8 x 10 putting surface with 2 cups.

Can't wait for it to arrive! Will post a picture once it is installed (about a week to 10 days they tell me).

If you move farther back from 10ft, you run the risk of plugging your ceiling when you hit your wedges...

Hi Jason, wondering what your experience with your build has been. Have been thinking of getting a Fiberbuilt combo mat myself with a Carls Pro enclosure. Do you have an pics of your build or any advice? Thanks!

My enclosure is just under 9ft tall and I hit 7.5ft away from the screen. All good.
I would not want to be much further away than 9ft because wedges would hit above the screen.

With your screen dimensions, the option of 9-10ft seems better

Aceball - experience with the mat has been fantastic. No issues with the wrist or elbow pain one hears bout with other mats and I do not see any negative transfer to the course. Overall very satisfied with the choice we made. Ceilings are 9 feet in the hitting area and we hit from 9-10 feet back. Enclosure was purpose built to accommodate the lower section (HVAC returns which could not be moved) so no lefties but this is not a major concern for us. Our netting and acoustic tiles come out 4 feet from the net and we have yet to sky a ball further forward than this. YMMV

How far down is your projector mounted? Does it ever interfere with your swing?

Projector is probably sitting just under 8 feet from the floor but it could be much lower as it is almost directly above my hitting position. As such there is simply no way to make contact with the projector. I sought a projector with a throw ratio to match my hitting position +/- for this exact reason. Projector central allows you to add throw ratio to your search criteria. It is a fantastic resource.
