  • Outdoor build?

Has anyone built (or have examples of) an outdoor build? Designing the yard at the new house and some potential to do the sim in the back yard under a pergola vs the garage.

There are some examples out there, but it is very specific to your location. Where about are you located?

I’m in Arizona, I could only really find one, everything else seemed to be a shed build.

Atleast it will be warm and dry! The biggest hurdle to overcome is lighting. You won’t be able to use a projector during the day as no open structure will block enough light to allow it.

I mean it’s only 70 degrees at the moment (7pm) haha that’s a good point though, I think the other thing may be how to make it multi purpose. I think that’ll be a big roadblock, but hoping someone has an example or two!

I’m in the Tucson area and have an outdoor build. Shoot me a message if you would like, I am happy to answer any questions you have.

There was another thread a few months ago where someone asked about builds on a terrace in the city and used my setup as an example. This is a setup I have in a fairly confined space and have to deal with various weather conditions (rain, typhoons, snow, etc.) as well as lighting issues, but the climate is possible to play year-round so I set it up and play when the weather is nice. Here is the thread.

Hi Guys - moving into a new place pretty soon that's (unfortunately) in a dense, big city. We have a private terrace that's connected to the apartment and 22x15ft so a pretty good size. I'm very tempted to get a net return pro, mat and Mevo+ to get my golf practice in throughout the non-winter seasons. I think it's fairly risky

Here I give a few points of consideration and show some pictures. Hope this may help.

I found this setup on Amazon, planning of setting up my first simulator. I think this is something you should be looking as well for indoor or outdoor setup.

That’s pretty cool with the curved screen and all, even if I don’t go outside it would be good to have that for a portable option!

There was someone who had a similar idea as you a few months ago. I believe he was trying to find a projector that would be bright enough. You could try searching for outdoor projector in this site to find who it was and see how their build went.

I am new to this forum, and it is awesome to see so many enthusiasts out there. I've had this fascination with putting a simulator setup outside under my pergola (I live in San Diego, so it's decent weather year round). The area is perfect. I've researched retractable screens, simulators, and turf already, but before I

Are you intending for it to be a permanent structure or something that you'll be setting up and taking down all the time?

It would be permanent minus the mat probably. Ironically my wife’s enthusiasm for the outdoor vs the garage is fading the more excited I get about it haha.

My solution to this problem is to build the room. Like you I couldn’t fit the sim in my house. I looked into big tents and inflatables. I thought the prices were too high. For 2 grand I figured I could build one. Plus I’m in the northeast. The winters are harsh up here. No way an inflatable would hold up to our winters. So I figured I could build the solution for the same price. At least that’s what I Thought. My golf gazebo is 16 x 14. I I have a shed and deck in the backyard already. I also have a basketball court back there so I needed to fit it into all that and make it look like it belongs there. I don’t need a permit for the gazebo so I need to make it look like a gazebo.

I live in Southern California so Winters are not bad. I do deflate it when it rains or gets really windy. That takes about 15-20 minutes to clear things out and deflate.

$2k for a building large enough is quite optimistic, as you discovered. Do you think you will get it done for under $10k after roofing, flooring, insulation, heat, etc?

I’m at 2k now. I have the roofing. I’m doing corrugated poly roofing. It’s a slanted roof. I’m going to screen it in to make it look more like a gazebo. I’ll have roll ups tarps to keep wind and rain out. I haven’t tackled heating yet. I dug the trench for the electric. I think I’ll be between 3-4K when all is said and done. I need the screening material and the some wood to seal the back and part of the sides.
