  • DIY Enclosure (Flat Roof vs 3-Way Peak Corner)

GungHoGolf and others. I'm looking to build a new enclosure (DIY) and reviewing the instructions from the GungHoGolf enclosure to get an idea of how I'd like to build it out. I see that someone has built the enclosure using the same instructions (https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...am-build/page2). A few alterations I was looking for are:

    - Does it make sense to make the roof of the enclosure sloped so that it can deal with flop/lob shots better? Is there any negative to doing so?

The flat roof corner is: https://www.a1tarps.com/ff3bcc.html
The sloped / 3-way peak corner is: https://www.a1tarps.com/fp3jb.html

    - I'm thinking of extending the enclosure to 5 feet in depth rather than the 3.5 feet depth from the enclosure guide. The commando cloth wouldn't seem like it covers the 5 foot depth so I'd have to look to an alteration to cover this.

I have plenty of roof clearance so I'm not too concerned if the front of the enclosure ends up being 9 or 9.5 ft in height.

    Any thoughts are welcomed.

I'm new to this, but in process of completing garage build where I do have some height limitations: ceiling 9'4", inside cage will be 8'6" high. I tested my setup distances by getting mat and hitting whiffle balls with a lob wedge. From a 11-13' distance to screen, I decided to make a cage 7' deep. A higher screen or cage would help, but surprised me a bit how fast ball can rise - not sure if I'll get exact same effect with real ball. Bigger cage and blackout fabric (using netting for ball stop and black denim from JoAnn's for blackout) do help in my garage with ambient light and screen image quality.

Good point about the bigger cage for image quality. Decisions decisions!

I used the angled top with those 3-way peak connectors in my current personal garage build, a 16x9' screen, but needed the top to extend up because I used a longer throw 4K projector (BenQ TK850) and needed it raised about a foot higher than screen height to avoid shadows. Worked great.

Mine is only 3.5' deep, which is plenty at that size. You can buy commando cloth in 9' width, but it's double the price of course.

Thanks for this. I may check the throw distance with the projector I have and see if I need to go with angled peak connectors. I may just get netting attached to the 3.5' deep enclosure rather than making it too deep for shank protection. I really only need it on the one side anyways.

GungHoGolf could you please share a photo of your set up? I am trying to picture an angled roof enclosure that is sloped but not too taut to allow for that commando cloth to also absorb the more lofted/skied shots, as per the OP description above.

No pic handy, but the slope is minimal and commando cloth is very tough. Attaching it just taut enough to be flat gives plenty of shot absorption capability, especially with lower-velocity high launch shots.
Working...
