  • New Sim Build Project UK - Advice Needed!

    Hi All,

Just recently moved in to my brand new home which was the show home. The Sales Centre has been converted into the garage space, which i now plan to convert into a Simulator room. The space has already been decorated i.e. plastered and painted and the size of room i have to work with now is 7 metres long x 5m high x 2.6m wide. Given the width space available, is this adequate enough for a launch monitor set up using GC2 or similar?

    Thanks in advance.

My sim space is 2.9m wide. It is tight and people with very flat swings have issues. I'd test by trying to make full swings with driver and foam balls in the space.

Thanks for the response. and would you say you have the ball exactly halfway between at address or slightly offset? Just so that when i test this myself i'm testing correctly.

I think we have our axes crossed. I think you will need much more than 2.6m along the balls travel path(room for back swing, space to impact screen and space behind impact screen). The 2.9m I'm talking about is perpendicular to the balls travel path.

Your height and depth dimensions are great. That width will make it a bit tight but I don't think it would be impossible. I would think you would have to move things off to one side a bit to make it work.

Thanks for the reply. Moving things off to one side slightly, would that affect alignment etc when aiming with a launch monitor? Hopefully that makes sense.

You're less than 9 feet wide, so you will absolutely have to be off-centered, and not just by a little. You're going to be way over to the right side (if you're a righty). Take your driver into the room and do some slow-motion swings to see how far to the side you need to be before you are comfortable swinging 100%.

As far as the alignment with a launch monitor --- the launch monitor doesn't know (or care) that you are off-centered. Regardless of where you hit from, you will position the launch monitor where it needs to be to read shots coming from that spot. You're still just hitting straight into the screen and the launch monitor still just reads that as "straight."

For playing golf courses, you can adjust the camera view in the game to also offset to match your hitting spot. That way the digital ball will align with your real ball like Jerome mentioned below. It's not necessary, but some people choose to do it. Otherwise, you can just hit into the right side of the screen and the ball on the screen will start from the middle.

I am not sure what adjustments may be necessary to ensure everything works together? I am sure not having the unit in the middle will have some impact on things. It looks like Jerome used alignment rods to align the unit and shifted the screen image a bit to give the perspective of having everything lined up. I think there will be some trial and error?

Here is my 2.9m wide setup. I offset the camera location 1.5 units to the right in TGC19 to keep things lined up.

Does anyone recommend anyone in particular regarding Enclosures/Impact Screen and matting in the UK? Come across GolfBays and GolfSwingSystems, they the guys to go too or is there anyone i'm missing?

Take a look at Hybrid Me he got a you tube channel and a website you can get impact screen from him and on his channel it shows you how to mount it.

my garage is 2.6 wide, i've got a GC2, before i had a skytrak and it was sat right up against the side wall, when i got the GC2, due to the greater distance between the back of the unit and the hitting area i was unable to hit anything longer than a hybrid.. so i got the chisel out and took a couple of blocks away and now have the gc2 recessed in the wall... works perfectly... just don't tell the missus...

                      First phase underway...
Arranged for stud wall to be removed to open up garage width to maximum available to 2.9m..

Trying to design out now the room layout etc and come to a problem I can’t readily come to the easiest solution.
with regards to suspending the projector, Am I better off trying to mount it off the ceiling (the ceiling height is 4m and already plastered and painted so ideally didn’t want to channel out to hide wires) or install something to go across the width of the room to suspend it from.

I’ve attached an image of the room to give some idea of what I mean.

                      Any advice on best/cheapest option?
