Ok I'm def not as technically competent as you guys on LM technology, but like DougieMn says "the trend is certainly up in the sim world", and loving fact that we might have more choices than just ST (held hostage by SkyGolf) and really expensive new GC2 (and not so cheap used ones either) w ES16 and now this GSA VisTrak thing.

I saw that. Definitely interesting. It's priced low enough that I'll probably give it a try this Spring. I'll post here if I do and say how it compares to ProTee hardware at least.

Given Martin's history of development schedules, spring 2017 is the earliest I'd expect to see anything semi functional be for sale. I remember watching the LX be coming "next month" for three years.

    • #18
Yeah LOL. Give him a few months, he will get there eventually and after that we will see a new LX with 2 of these cameras and then another version that adds a simpler over head cam for better HLA accuracy. And so on and so forth.

I told you before. If you don't have the skills required to design your own cameras and rely on buying standard USB cameras from the likes of PTGrey. You will never be competitive in neither price nor performance. Production cost of a full ST unit is less than 50% of the cost Martin pays for 1 of those USB3 cameras and on par with what he pays for one of the simple low cost USB2 cameras. GC2 production cost is a different story because they use a very expensive and advanced image sensor. But that sensor is old and there are more cost effective alternatives around now.

Dav can you give one examples or links to the newer advanced imag sensors? What type of cameras do you think the GC2 are using?

Martins cameras are expensive, I know for a fact. Skytrak uses way, way cheaper materials.

Most of the image sensors I talk about here are not available publicly. You need an NDA to get the spec and that NDA can only be obtain if you are a big and important customer. Launch monitor manufacturers typically don't qualify. I work with vision processing and cameras at my day job and have access to all kind of stuff that is not publicly available.
On top of that even for the stuff that is publicly available. It's not in my interest to disclose that level of detail.
One of these days I might develop a product just for fun and don't want to share details here that could help competition get ahead:-)

I probably said too much already, so need to dial it down a notch.

Don't you test most new products? Have you heard of this before today?

He was being sarcastic. Hard to convey through text. The general opinion on this forum is Martin is very unreliable (which he's proven to be true) and announces ideas before actually developing them (which he's also proven to be true). If he pulls it off and it works well it would be pretty damn nice. It might never make it into production like some of his past ideas, too. We'll see.

I test a lot of products. I have known Martin for 5 yrs or more. I have tested his LX but the problem with Martin is the products come and go faster then the common cold. What's here today s gone tomorrow. I will be hopefully seeing him in the new year.

Seems like it would be a good add on for my CX2 system. What he really needs to do is add a second camera in there similar to the CTS C pro. This would give you club path. Beta test please Martin? I am quite sure that Martin knows that this will have to be mounted slightly ahead to avoid the player's head blocking the cameras. See CTS install instructions. From the picture, it looks like there is a line scan camera built into the unit.

He doesn't mention line scan camera but just a single camera. I would agree that if he used this with a CX2 it has potential. Alone, I am not convinced.....yet!

That blue and red light looks a lot like my line scan camera. Red shows power, blue shows triggered cameras. I really hope this works with the CX2.

Update, it will work with other GSA products like the CX2.

I've placed an order for the VisTrak IF... IF ... did I say IF ... it comes out Jan 1 ... not being sarcastic but I've had a few discussions with Martin about other golf sim technolgoies that only use a single overhead camera and work fairly well... better than you would expect even with the launch angle. It's not as big of a deal as you guys think (I am quite technical myself). Anyway I do hope that he develops a great system here as this is a much better path to go down than CX2 or CX3. (in my opinion)

According to the newest update, he is now using a line scan camera and will be no longer using a mic to trigger. I'm not familiar with Martin's products so those that are, feel free to chime in and explain what advantages the line scan camera would add.

A line scan camera takes the place of floor sensors or mic sensors to trigger the cameras. Once set up it's FOV is generally 6 inches by about 5 feet. Once the ball enters the FOV, the cameras are triggered. I recently replaced my floor sensor with a LS camera. This allows me to have a perfectly flat putting surface. Putting over sensors kinda sucks. If Martin is using a LS camera, he would have to narrow the FOV to about 6 inches by 12-16 inches. He says that the Vistrack can recognize the ball and will not trigger until it is struck. Let's hope it can recognize a dumb friend that walks across the FOV. The current LS can't. Vistrack would be a cool add on to my CX2 system because my hitting area will remain untouched except for the tee holder. And you don't have to hit from the exact same spot every time.... Just relatively close to the center line.

Keith, I was getting a lot of different reads from the line scan - person walking over to pick up a ball ... but after an adjustment it would not pick up low drivers. Did you experience anything similar?

They need to walk around the 6 inch by 5 or 6 feet FOV. I have trained my friends to pick up any balls in the FOV while the shot is still being shown on screen. I have never had a problem with low drives. If your system is not picking up low drives, it is not the LS camera. The LS only triggers the Hcam and Vcam. If the LS triggers the cameras during putting, it will trigger for all shots. Look in your control panel after a failed launch of a low drive. If you can see the ball trace but the green crosshairs are not on the start and finish of the trace, then it is camera settings. Try lowering the min trace gray scale while the trace is on the screen. Let me know via PM if that helps.

Yeah, not looking good. Price has nearly doubled. If it all works well in the end it would still be a decent deal, though. I'm getting more curious about Ernest Sports' ES16 the more Martin posts about Vistrack.

The Dec. 18th update just killed any interest I had in the visitrak. Martin's back to FiberBuilt trigger matt. Having watched the multi-year LX travesty, my interest was more curiousity that would only have been piqued if Bubba said good things about it after his January trip.
