Hey guys, not sure what you do, but here is what I setup.
      - White Tape on Driver, Woods, Hybrids (not irons).

I calibrated all my irons and in club settings I have SPEED set to 100% and DISTANCE set to 100%.
This results in very accurate distances for me based on the average distance I set.

I deleted my driver calibration because it wasn't realistic even if I altered the offset (open face wouldn't even show a slice).

For my driver I set SPEED to 100% and DISTANCE set to 94% (94 or 95 can't recall now).
The reason I did this was because having distance set to 100% resulted in longer drives. I could leave it this way, but I wanted to be more realistic and honest to my real swing distances.

Not sure if any of you are driving the ball longer than you would in real life, but you may check the settings I'm referring to if you need/want to tweak.

After doing this, the OptiShot is very closed to what I really hit.

      Hope any of this helps!

          Thank you, Mike.

This should probably be a new thread, but I'd like to see everyone's "best practices" for hitting woods and irons. I hit the ball a little farther on the DD than in real life (I've been clocked at 120+ on the PGA store's Trackmans) but the confidence factor is undeniable.

On the Optishot, I'm swinging for the fences because

          - Even if I'm shooting 2 from the thresh, I won't have to find the ball. The machine does it for me.
          - I am usually not tired after rolling out of bed to make a tee time, waiting for the caffeine to kick in. My body simply feels better.
          - I am either by myself or playing with a "partner" or two that can't see me.

I try to get my drives to carry 280 in the game. That's maybe 10 yards better than what I would do in real life.

A couple days ago during a practice round on Hua Hin I was hitting my driver (admittedly down hill down wind) 350+ and I hit a 5W 280 down wind relatively flat elevation. During my round 1 here I don't know that I saw a single drive over 250 with most being 220-230. I typically carry my driver 270-275 in the real world @ sea level and my 5W roughly 215-220.

If I recall correctly there was an early par 4 in my round (hole 3 or 4 maybe?) that I hit driver then 3w and was still 30-40 yards short of the green!!!!

Guess the fault is mine for not checking which *ball* the game thought I was using pregame. I know now to check before every round and especially after every update. Still unsure if *foam ball* registers less yardage as *no ball*, I will have to check tomorrow, wife has company showing up tonight.

Actually I managed to find a few minutes. I loaded game and went to the range. I changed ball to "no ball" and swung - carried 310 yards. I lowered swing speed to 95% and carry 275 now with a 108 mph swing speed, pretty darn close to my actual speed and carry. I did have to readjust my offset on my driver, when I checked it was set at .2 when it should be .65 or .7 to give me my "natural fade".

I am not sure why, but it seems the game registers "foam ball" swing speeds much slower than "no ball".

Think I'm at 96% and 97% on my driver. My 3 wood and irons are all set to 100.

Surely thats because with foam ball selected it expects the first thing to break the line of sensors to be a ball and not your clubhead but as you have no actual ball it is ur clubhead that breaks the sensors and the software therefore factors ur clubhead is going slower than the 'ball'. With no ball selected you get your true clubhead speed measured, which is going to be faster than the previous example.

From the practise round I played last night and not knowing that foam ball was checked. Noticed my swing on the driver was not going over 100mh. Where it's notmally around 110 to 125. And my irons were 1 to 2 irons off. For example. From 150 yards I can hit a easy 9 iron or a hard pw 150 Last night I was using a 7 iron to 150. I tried hitting the foam ball and it's just doesn't have the same feeling and for that I'm sticking with the hard ball.

That make more sense Jason, you select what you are hitting...

Hey everyone! I'm going to throw a mind blower into the mix. Ok, so earlier if you read my post about my club settings and all iron set to 100% and Driver/3W/Hybrid set to 94%. Well that is with the FOAM BALL selected which I did not know like everyone mentioned the update caused it. I hit a real ball, not foam at the screen.

I switched it back to Real Ball, then I was having to change my Distance Percentage way down to reflect real distances. Then I thought, maybe OptiShot has an error and has something mixed up with which ball type is for which setting.

So here is the blind blower for all of you. I have a SkyTrak launch monitor. It reads ball distance and club speed very accurately. So guess what, the setting I have set to FOAM BALL matches everything the Skytrak is reading for distance and club head speed for each club while using a real ball.

My thinking is Optishot has something messed up. Because when I switch it back to real ball my swing speed goes way up!!! A lot higher than what the Skytrak is reading. And when I have it on real ball I'm finding I'm having to adjust my distance percentage way down (which seems strange why I would have to adjust it).

So maybe if any of you want to test this theory, setup a new player and club set and adjust the following to see if you get results that are very close to real life. This setup below matches my Skytrak!!!!!

                        Setup
                        Ball Type: Foam Ball
                        Driver: 100% Speed & 93% Distance
                        Woods: 100% Speed & 93% Distance
                        Hybrid: 100% Speed & 93% Distance
                        Irons: 100% Speed & 100% Distance
(Set your real average distance in the club setup)
(You may need to tweak your Distance Percent but that is what matched the Skytrak for me)

Now you may or may not notice your swing speed go down from your previous setting. But an average golfer is usually at 90-100 swing speed. A Tour Pro is 110-125 swing speed.

Curious if this setup resembles closer to your real swing or not. If anything, do a test and let me know.

Again, everyone has different swings, so this may or may not be helpful!

Don't know about Skytrack, but I can tell you that with everything on a 100 speed and distance, My irons and 5 Wood are dead on with my distances on the course.. The Driver and 3 Wood is about 15 yards longer on average. That's hitting a real Ball with Real ball selected in software... I cant speak for Foam Ball...

All, I know lighting and turf effect things too. I use the thick monster turf. What I said may or may not apply to you and your setup. But just wanted to share what I found comparing to Skytrak.

I use monster turf to stand on but still have original OptiShot turf top.

If I go to foam balls I loose a ton of swing speed. I mean it's not even close. 270-280 yard drives instantly become 220 yard drives. While I was on foam I would hit a 7 iron 120 yards, a club I normally hit 160-165.

It should be noted, I have logged in to the game a couple times since I posted earlier and EACH TIME my ball was reset to foam, so check it every single time guys.

Thought I should clear things up. The SkyTrak does not measure club speed. It's an estimate from some of the ball data. On some shots it will match a club radar monitor, and on some, it will not match. The Optishot also does not measure club speed directly. It also estimates club speed. You make club adjustments to get your distances and it's does a decent job.
