  • How to bypass or fix a bad sensor?

Greetings all - I have a protee system and one of my sensors, #15, is no longer working. I don't know if I can just bypass it (I tried to disable just that one but it won't let me) or if I need to mail it to the Netherlands to be fixed or if I have to replace the whole darn thing. I don't see anything physically wrong with the sensor (#15) itself, but despite having a HCam and a Vcam as well all my shots go only 1 inch, sideways, because of the broken sensor #15. Attaching a screenshot of my screen. Any help is most appreciated! The 6 month Michigan winter just began a week ago. : )

My used one failed shortly after receiving it. I sent it into Protee's recommended repair location here in the US. They were not able to fix it. I ended up buying parts from the repair location and off of Ebay, of all places, and fixed it myself. I do not blame them at all for recommending I get a new board, they had very good reasons. It was one tough fix. I ended up replacing two of the IR sensors, a couple of ICs and fixed several PC board traces. I'm a retired consulting electrical engineer and have most of the equipment to handle a job like this. I do not recommend you do the repair yourself. I might suggest you contact Protee and get the latest repair location and have them do the job for you.

I tried to repaired one myself as well. Ended up buying a new one. It is very difficult to replace those things. I had several that went bad as my board was older. Also with what you described I would think that there is more going on then just that one bad sensor. Even with several bad sensors I was still able to make shots. I did but just the board from pro-tee.

When I had mine I had a sensor I knocked off when trying to clean it. I ordered the sensor based off of a link on pro tees website and found someone with electronics experience to put it on. We installed it backwards the first time but then flipped it around and it works like a charm for the next 3 years until I sold it. Cheap fix and seemed easy, but I wasn’t he one soldering it in there either :-)

          Hi Chris,
unfortunately sensors on the front row cannot be disabled and it would require a replacement. They can be replaced , an electronics specialist with equipment can change these quite easily.
Occasionally it doesn't go to plan and a replacement board is required but I would definitely try repair first.
The sensors are available online to attempt repair.

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. My electrical skills are limited to light bulk replacement so I'll need to get in contact with ProTee in the US is appears. It was only 18 months old too, which is a real bummer.
