    Settings- firmness and speed

    Hi all.

Are there typical settings for firmness and speed that are used; or does it vary completely?

Any suggestions on what to use? I must admit I find the green speed very fast but don't seem to mind or find strange the bounce.

    Loving the tour!

I have my firmness at 1 and my speed at 3.

My stimp I put to 6. It was at 7 but I think 6 is more real for me.

What's the difference between stimp and speed?

Also sorry for the noobie question but do these settings work as is; or do I need to patch? I thought u read somewhere there was a patch related to these

There was a patch. The patch gave you stimp, speed, and firmness. You have those options then you wouldn't need the patch.

As far as difference, I believe (from vague memory) one adjusted putting speed and one adjusted rollout on incoming shots. Hopefully someone with better memory than I will chime in.

You are on the right track Gary.

Stimp is putting rollout and is for putting only. Speed is for rollout of chips and pitches.

Does speed affect stimp (i.e. putting rollout)?

Now when I reviewed my notes on stimp and speed I am confused again. jrz I am going to have to research this again. I do not remember where I got my info and my mind is not sharp on this. It would be nice to be able to replay a shot with different settings to see how they change the result. Maybe @keither1050 can do that as I cannot with protee, or at least I do not know how.

Thanks Boerdoc. This has been one of the more frustrating questions about TGC - no one has been able to clearly define what the different green settings mean. Please do let us know if you are able to find some clarity.

I can't wait to get home and look into this. The one thing my son and I have a problem with the simulator in comparison to real life is that it's nearly impossible for us to get a ball to stop on the green!

I'm with you. Green speed in the sim is nothing like course I play. I'm starting to get it, but it has taken a while...

Stimp is speed, speed is relative to speed set in designer or the other way around. I suggest you use what works for you. Mine at the same as about. 1-3-6

If you negative handicaps play with those settings then it's good enough for me.

I am using..... these settings match an average green that usually play....plus it matches my carpet that I putt on.

            Green Stimp=7
            Green Firmness=1
            Green Speed=3

Thanks everyone. Looks like I need to patch as I only have 2 options not 3. How do I go about that?

Also what is the scale 1-10?

                Hi Guys,

Just following up. I changed my stimp settings via the settings text file, saved it but I then noticed later days that it had reset to 7 - why would that happen? I'm 100% certain made the changes and saved them

After a couple attempts of installing I managed to be the settings show version 3.02. Set to 5 1 3 and straight putting. Night and day. Putting a little too simple but I think that's outweighed by the fun element. Never looking to improve or measure putting so ill take the fun!

Do these individual settings for putting roll over to tournaments or are tournaments green speeds set a default number? Reason being I'd like to keep my settings the same as what the tournament speeds are.

There are no rules on green speeds for tournaments.

I searched for "green stimp" and this came up:

We have created a quick TGC Patch for those who want to play around with the Green Configuration. This patch will update the server component to version 3.0.1

It is really vague. It says they are related, but that is about it. I think an explanation of, if I turn stimp up or down, the ball will .... <insert explanation>.
